Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • March 17, 2010 Area Saddle River Youth Theatre, The Performing Arts School in Residence at Highlands Regional Playhouse, Archer Hall, in Allendale, will present “Les Miserable” March 17 through 20. SRYT’s students, who range from six through 18 years of age and hail from Bergen and Rockland counties, are presenting this Broadway hit after nearly three months of rehearsals and intensive instruction in this operaticstructured musical. Their hard work is apparent in their performances, enhanced by the period specific costumes and the iconic Barricade. The performances take place at Highlands Regional Playhouse, located on the grounds of Archer United Methodist Church, located at the intersection of 37 East Allendale Avenue and Franklin Turnpike in Allendale. SRYT brings ‘Les Miserable’ to local audiences Show dates and times are March 17 at 7 p.m., March 19 at 7 p.m., and March 20 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $12 each and all seating is assigned, so advanced reservation is recommended, although available remaining tickets will be sold at the door 20 minutes prior to show time. The performances are rated PG for some suggestive content/language, loud battle scenes. The show is two and a half hours plus intermission. Founded in 1996, Saddle River Youth Theatre is an integral part of youth theater education and production in Bergen County. As a non-profit, 501 ( c ) 3 organization, SRYT recently received a 2009-10 Excellence Award from The Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs. The team of dedicated theater professionals has sought to enrich the cultural and artistic enjoyment of New Jersey theater audiences by bringing the Broadway experience to local communities. With over 140 shows to its credit, in addition to countless specialized workshops such as: Improv for Teens and Tweens, Theatre Intern Training with theatre professionals, and Shakespeare for Teens -- the talented and nurturing staff of teachers share a common goal. The shared philosophy is to reinforce self-confidence as well as encourage teamwork among cast members and their peers. By taking part in theater productions, students have an opportunity to participate in full-scale shows in the recently-renovated, 120-seat, air-conditioned playhouse. Every child gets a part.
