Waldwick March 17, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 Board appoints new superintendent of schools The Waldwick Board of Education has appointed a new superintendent of schools to replace Dr. Robert Penna, who will be retiring at the end of the school year. Dr. Patricia Raupers will assume leadership of the 1,600-student district as of July 1. “We are proud to have Dr. Raupers join our community and are looking forward to the great things she has in store for us,” commented Waldwick Board of Education President Patricia Levine in announcing the appointment during last week’s board meeting. Dr. Raupers received B.A. and M.A. degrees in history from Seton Hall University and earned a doctorate in instructional leadership at St. John’s University. She has been employed by the Northern Valley School System for 35 years. Dr. Raupers began her work in the Northern Valley district’s high school as a history teacher. She also served as coordinator of staff development. She is currently the district’s director of the Office of Curriculum and Instruction, a post she has held since 1999. The district’s seven elementary schools and one high school serve a total of 6,000 students. Also an adjunct professor in the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers University, Dr. Raupers has authored a number of articles on professional development and was co-author of a staff development textbook. She is currently serving as the co-president of the Bergen County Curriculum Consortium and chairs the Curriculum Committee of the Bergen County Association of School Administrators. Dr. Raupers was a member of the Executive Committee of the New Jersey Staff Development Council, and she has been a presenter on educational issues at state and national conferences. A River Vale resident, Dr. Raupers will be paid $180,000 during the first year of her five-year contract. Thereafter, she will receive a base salary increase of three percent above the preceding year, rising to $202,591 during the 2014-15 school year. As part of the student recognition program, Waldwick High School and Waldwick Middle School have named their Students of the Month for February. Faculty members made the selections. Waldwick High School students who were honored are Students of the Month announced James Tyson for athletics, Michael Marrero for drama, and Jeannette Sullivan for consumer science. Waldwick Middle School students who received recognition are sixth grader Kieran McLafferty, seventh grader Cara Montella, and eighth grader Tristan Mekarzel.
