Waldwick March 3, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 The Waldwick Council last week approved a bond ordinance to fund water system improvements in the amount of $80,000. According to Borough Administrator Gary Kratz, $60,000 of that amount will be used to make major water system repairs in the area of the Viggiano Bridge on Wyckoff Avenue. Kratz explained that the vibration caused by the vehicles that use the bridge has resulted in substantial deterioration to the structure that supports the two water mains that run on the sides of the bridge. “They needed replacing, and we thought we’d do both sides,” said Kratz., noting that the water main feeds water from the east to the west side of town. The damage was uncovered when one of the mains sprung a leak and the entire area was inspected. “We did a portion of the work with funds we had available, and we want to finish the job with the funds from this ordinance,” Kratz said. Total improvements anticipated under the ordinance include replacement of water mains, fire hydrants and Ordinance to fund water system improvements valves, leak detection and repair, and rehabilitation of wells No. 2 and No. 3. The council last week also adopted another bond ordinance to fund capital projects totaling $810,750. “It’s a modest budget,” commented Kratz. “We were looking to cut back as much as possible. Certain things have to be done that we can’t defer,” he added. The ordinance includes an appropriation of $175,000 for the reconstruction of Industrial Parkway and Demarest Place. Of this amount, however, $150,000 will come from a grant from the state’s Transportation Trust Fund. Roads to be resurfaced, according to Kratz, include Monroe Street, a portion of Summit Avenue, and a section of East Prospect Street between Sheridan Avenue and West Saddle River Road. The repaving, for which $200,000 is budgeted, will be done next summer, he said, under a cooperative pricing agreement with other Northwest Bergen municipalities. The ordinance includes an appropriation of $140,500 for the fire department, including a command vehicle for the fire chief. Other items for the department include air packs and bottles, turnout gear, a thermal imaging camera, radios, pagers, helmet face pieces with voice amplifiers, a fire hose, truck hose covers, and an exhaust fan. Also included in the ordinance is the sum of $7,400 for new information technology equipment, including computer equipment for various borough departments, offices, and agencies; and $86,600 for the purchase of a vacuum, perimeter fencing, and other repairs at the municipal pool; installation of a barrier-free front access door at the Waldwick Administration Building; and energy efficiency improvements at various municipal buildings. The Waldwick Department of Public Works will get new communication and signal systems equipment at a cost of $12,500; and a mason dump truck, gas monitors, and a tub grinder cover at a cost of $71,100. Another $72,500 would cover an oil separator tank for the DPW garage, parking meter housings, a wood chipper box, and a landscaping trailer. Additionally, $10,000 has been included to cover the cost of storm water sewer collection system upgrades as required by the state. Spacious 1BR Call for details NOW RENTING Income Tax Preparation Personal Taxes Business Taxes Competitive Rates Quality Returns Offices in Mahwah and Ramsey, NJ 201-512-0300 n_buonfiglio@smallbizpros.com • • • • Tax Consulting and Preparation Monthly Financial Reporting Business Advice & Growth Complete Payroll Services by Usui and Tibetan Reiki Master Nancy L.
