Both of these Waldwick residents are sophomores. To qualify for this honor, a student must be matriculated full-time and have a grade point averages of 3.33 or above. Activity Nights Coordinator sought The Municipal Alliance is searching for a new volunteer to coordinate the Fifth Grade Municipal Alliance Activity Nights. The coordinator will be responsible for scheduling chaperones, arranging for refreshments, and attending the events. Three events are held every spring/early summer. Student seeks community’s assistance Local high school student Elyssa Giordano has applied for the annual Zinch March Madness $20,000 Scholarship. Giordano requests that residents visit www.waldwicknj. org/zinch.pdf to assist her in securing the scholarship. Giordano is captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Team, and a member of the Waldwick High School Academic Decathlon Team, where she performs at the varsity level. Last year, the decathlon team won at the regional, state, and national levels. This year, the team has advanced to states. She is involved in school organizations, Students for Global Awareness, Heroes and Cool Kids, and the Photography Club. WCA acknowledges sponsor Last’s week’s coverage of the Waldwick Community Alliance’s Wine Tasting fundraiser failed to mention that the event was sponsored, in part, by Maratene’s Fine Wines and Spirits of Waldwick. More than 200 guests attended the event, which raised funds for the restoration of the historic Waldwick Train Station. Amnesty International to meet The Bergen County Chapter of Amnesty International, an international human rights organization, will meet on Thursday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Waldwick Public Library, 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. Action will be taken on behalf of a high priority prisoner of conscience and spring events will be planned. Cake decorating demonstration planned The Waldwick Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will meet on Wednesday, March 3 at 1 p.m. at the Waldwick Methodist Church on Franklin Turnpike. Annual Fashion Show fundraiser set The Waldwick High School Graduation Ball Committee will hold its annual Fashion Show fundraiser and dinner on Tuesday, March 2 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Seasons Restaurant in Washington Township. Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner, the fashion show, and one sheet of tickets for the prize baskets. Tickets will be on sale through Feb. 25. Create a backyard wildlife habitat Don Torino, a birdscaping consultant for a local specialty shop, will present “Creating a Backyard Wildlife Habitat” at the Waldwick Public Library Wednesday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. Torino will make recommendations for providing nesting areas, native plants, and a year-‘round water supply. Borough seeks CERT volunteers The Borough of Waldwick Office of Emergency Management and the Waldwick Police Department are asking citizens to volunteer their services to help safeguard the country, the communities, their families, and themselves by volunteering to participate in the Community Emergency Response Team program. CERT training consists of 20 hours of instruction over an eight-week period. Classes are taught by emergency responders, including firefighters, emergency medical services, and law enforcement personnel from the community. At the completion of the training program, basic CERT safety equipment will be issued to each successful participant.
