The Chamber meets the second Tuesday of the month. International Food Day set The Clothes Line Thrift Shop has scheduled an International Food Day for Friday, March 5. This event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Archer United Methodist Church’s Archer Hall. Sample foods from around the world and view the ethnic clothing worn by patrons in celebration of their heritage. Music will be provided by Sheryl Edsall and Lily Kay of the Kirtan band. The Clothes Line Thrift Shop is open on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shop carries all types of clothing and accessories and household items. Delaware announces Dean’s List The following Allendale students who attend the University of Delaware have been named to the Dean’s List for the fall 2009 semester: John Dalo, Jacqueline Lewis, Justine Librot, and Alyssa Ogden. To qualify for this honor, a student must be matriculated full-time and have a grade point average of 3.33 or above. Board of education to meet The Allendale Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, March 9 at 8 p.m. in the Brookside School Library, 100 Brookside Avenue. The next meeting of the Allendale Board of Education has been rescheduled from March 30 to Wednesday, March 31 at 8 p.m. This session will include the public hearing for the tentative 2010-11 school budget. Information on the budget and the programs and services it provides is available in the Allendale Board of Education office at 100 Brookside Avenue. Kindergarten orientation set Orientation for parents of children who will be entering kindergarten in September 2010 will be held on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Hillside School all-purpose room. This program provides parents with an overview of the Hillside kindergarten program and curriculum. Kindergarten registration will take place on Monday, March 8 for pupils whose last names begin with A through M, and Tuesday, March 9 for those with last names beginning with N through Z. Registration time will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at Hillside School. Parents must bring proof of child’s birth, such as a birth or baptismal certificate or passport, a copy of your child’s immunization history, and proof of residency (copy of lease, driver’s license, utility bill, etc.) to registration. Children may be enrolled in kindergarten if they are five years of age by Oct. 1 of the year they will begin school. Should a child be six years of age or older as of Oct. 1, 2010, a kindergarten screening date will be scheduled, as per board of education policy. Based on the screening results, parents will be advised as to the placement of a child in either kindergarten or in first grade. All children entering kindergarten must have a physical dated after Jan. 1, 2010, and all immunizations must be up-to-date as required by the State of New Jersey. The school nurse will be present at registration to answer health questions and to review the children’s records. The snow date for the orientation will be on Monday, March 8 at 7 p.m. Snow date for registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m., on Monday, March 15 for pupils whose last name begins with A through M and Tuesday, March 16 for pupils with last names beginning with N through Z. AFEE Super Fundraiser tickets on sale The Allendale Foundation for Educational Excellence is selling tickets for its annual Super Fundraiser. Participants could win up to $25,000 in cash prizes. Only 500 tickets will be sold. First prize is 80 percent of winning share; second prize, 16 percent of winning share; and third prize, four percent of winning share. The winners will be named at AFEE’s auction on March 5. Winners do not need to be present. Tickets are $100 each and may be purchased by mailing a check payable to AFEE to: AFEE, P.O. Program offered on teen and family support The Creative Living Counseling Center in Allendale is offering two eight-session courses for teens and their parents. “Teen Turn Around” is designed to help students in grades nine through 12 work up to their academic and personal potential. “Effective Teen Parenting” empowers parents of teens to explore a new approach to parenting and to the parent-teen relationship. Both courses are offered on Tuesday, March 2 from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. at the Creative Living Counseling Center, 37 East Allendale Avenue, Allendale. The fee for each is $250 for eight 90minute sessions plus materials. If you enroll yourself and your teen in both courses, a 10 percent discount will be offered to those who enroll with their teen in both courses for a total cost of $450.
