Rorty received 239 ballots and Shea received 208 as they passed incumbent Republican Councilman Lee Flemming to earn their party’s nod for the November general election. Flemming, who ran “off the line” due to his philosophical differences with his fellow council members, received 127 ballots. Barring a write-in campaign, the Republican primary winners will be uncontested in the fall election. Independents had until the day of the primary to announce their candidacy in the November election, but no candidates stepped forward. “I’m very pleased to have Phil Rorty and Kevin Shea coming on the council,” HoHo-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall told Villadom TIMES after the election results were announced. “They will be great contributors as we face difficult issues, including the budget, and will keep Ho-Ho-Kus the type of town we’ve come to love. I look forward to them winning again in November.” “I’m glad it turned out the way it did,” Rorty said of the election. “I’m looking forward to serving and doing a good job for the people of Ho-Ho-Kus by maintaining the quality of life we have and keeping our financial house in good shape.” Rorty is chairman of the Ho-Ho-Kus Republican County Committee, which recommends appointees to the borough council when members of the governing body step down and leave unexpired terms. He is also president of the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the borough planning board. He has resided in the borough for all but seven years of his life. He was educated at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School and at Ridgewood High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Nichols College. Rorty is a vice president with Liberty International Underwriters. He has coached soccer and baseball, played in the local softball league, and served as an Assistant Cub Master.
