Theater presents ‘Free to Be…You and Me’ The Bergen Highlands Youth Theater invites the community to the musical “Free to Be…You and Me” on Saturday, June 19 at 2 and 7 p.m. at the Saddle River Valley Cultural Center. This teen workshop production promotes positive values such as individuality, sharing, helping others, and breaking down stereotypes. Through songs and comedy, the actors express that people can achieve anything they want, regardless of gender, race or ethnicity, and can find happiness by being true to themselves. The show is appropriate for all ages. Directed by Rev. Jennifer and Richard Lovallo, the show will be performed by six talented youth in middle and high school. There is no admission charge; however, a free-will offering will be accepted. “Free to Be…You and Me” was originally developed by Marlo Thomas as an album and an ABC Afterschool Special. It was written by various TV and Broadway writers with music by Bruce Hart and has won Emmy and Peabody awards. Board of education to meet The Upper Saddle River Board of Education will meet on Monday, June 21 at 8 p.m. in the Cavallini Middle School media center. Cultural center offers programs for children Saddle River Valley Cultural Center, 305 West Saddle River Road, in Upper Saddle River, is offering a variety of camps for children this summer. Visit the website for the registration form. Mystery Camp Adventure, which will be held June 28 through July 2 from 9 a.m. to noon, will offer a different surprise theme each morning. Children who are age five and up will participate in crafts, games, and exploring the environment. The cost is $160 plus a $10 registration fee. Art Camp will run June 28 through July 23 and offer two programs: the Camper Sampler, with the best of all sessions with a student’s favorite cartoons; and Toon Blaster, with the Cartoon and Disney networks. Science/Nature Camp (High Touch-High Tech) will be offered from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 3 through 14. Children will spend the morning exploring the world of science and nature. This hands-on program is for children who have completed kindergarten and up. The cost is $350. Fairy Fun will take children into the secret and mystical world of fairies. Participants will build a fairy home, have a fairy tea party, write a letter to a fairy, and more. The program, which will meet Aug. 23 through 27 from 9:15 to 11:45 a.m., is for children ages five and up and costs $160. A Robotic Workshop for children ages six and up will be offered Aug. 23 through 27 from 9 a.m. to noon. Participants will compete, race, and battle in the world of robotics.
