Waldwick June 2, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 3 Voters to cast primary ballots; write-in effort underway Waldwick voters will have the opportunity to cast their votes in the Democratic and Republican primaries on June 8. Two Democrats are on that party’s ballot, while Republican voters are urged to cast write-in votes for the GOP council incumbents. Candidates who win their parties’ primaries will appear on the ballot in the November general election, when two council seats will be available. Democrats Franklin Jaegge and J. Patrick Hunter are again seeking election after an unsuccessful run for the council last year. The Republican incumbents, Thomas Giordano and Don Sciolaro, failed to file by the April 12 deadline, blaming the omission on a filing mistake, according to Republican Chairman and Mayor Emeritus James Toolen. “Tom and Don have the full support of the local Republican party. Former Mayor Rich Vander Wende, all the council members, the county committee, and I are all fully behind them and are looking forward to victory. It’s important that they get elected. Both are fiscal hawks with experience handling tight budgets. It’s important that Waldwick be represented by people like them,” Toolen said. “They need a minimum of 28 write-in votes to be on the November ballot.” Hunter, 31, is a life-long resident of Waldwick and a 1997 graduate of Waldwick High School. He received a BS in marketing from Ramapo College in 2001 and an MBA in finance from Ramapo College in 2005. The vice-chairman of the Waldwick Zoning Board, on which he has served since 2008, Hunter is the past second vice president of the Ramapo College Alumni Board of Directors and a member of the Anisfield School of Business Advisory Board. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, and serves as an usher at the Church of the Nativity in Midland Park. He is also a member of the Waldwick Democratic Club, and the Waldwick and Wyckoff chambers of commerce. Employed by Mercedes-Benz USA for over 12 years, he is currently the Pre-Owned Sales Manager for Mercedes Benz Manhattan. He is also the co-owner of Wyckoff Cycle, LLC, and a licensed real estate agent with Halcyon Enterprises Inc, a division of Abbott and Caserta Realtors. Jaegge has resided in Waldwick for 50 years, and has served on the Waldwick Fire Department for 48 of those years, including three terms as chief. In 1971, he was instrumental in organizing the Junior Fire Brigade. Jaegge has also served as Waldwick’s civil defense disaster coordinator. A former member of the Waldwick Planning Board for five years, he has been a member of the zoning board for seven years. Jaegge, whose wife Paula is Waldwick’s borough clerk, has three daughters and five grandchildren from a previous marriage. Now retired, Jaegge was general traffic manager for GEC Marconi for 35 years. Giordano, a 21-year resident, is seeking his third term on the council. He heads the council’s Environmental Services Committee. He attended the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service and holds an AA in occupational studies from Mercy College.
