On May 27 at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Highwood Avenue resident was awakened by the sound of someone tampering with his vehicle. Later that morning, a Wanamaker Avenue resident reported property missing from her vehicle. A suspect has been captured on several video surveillance systems and the incidents are being investigated by the detective bureau. On May 14, Sergeant Rob Woessner and Officer Jodi Zuzeck arrested two Waldwick residents for possession of heroin, possession of hypodermic needles, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest occurred when the officers responded to a possible burglary in progress at a home on West Prospect Street. A neighbor called

911 stating that there was a female climbing through a basement window. Officers entered the residence and observed narcotics and paraphernalia on a table in the basement of the residence. When the residents returned home they were placed under arrest. A K-9 Unit from Bergen County Police responded and conducted a search of one of the arrestee’s vehicle. On May 15, an East Prospect Street resident reported a theft of contractor’s equipment from the property. Officer Seifert determined that a Whacker Plate Compactor, designed for compaction of mixed soils in narrow spaces, and various tools were taken from the backyard. The estimated value of the theft is in excess of $2,000. The Waldwick Police Detective Bureau is conducting an investigation into the theft. On May 16, Officer John Greco arrested
a 22-year-old Waldwick man for DWI. The arrest was a result of a motor vehicle crash on the exit ramp from Route 17 onto Sheridan Avenue. Following field sobriety tests the man was placed under arrest. After the individual was placed under arrest he made numerous statements that he wanted to harm himself. Officers had the individual transported to Bergen Regional Medical Center for a psychological evaluation. Officer Greco issued summonses for DWI and reckless driving. On May 20, Officer Dave Passaretti arrested a 31-year-old Ridgewood man for DWI. The arrest was a result of a motor vehicle stop on Wyckoff Avenue after the vehicle was observed making an illegal right turn on red. Following field sobriety tests, the man was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. Officer Passaretti issued summonses for DWI, reckless
driving, failure to observe signal, failure to wear a seatbelt, and failure to exhibit documents. On May 21, Officer Dave Passaretti and Officer Adam Garcia arrested four people for underage possession of alcohol. The arrest resulted when Officer Garcia observed the individuals purchase alcohol from a liquor store. They returned to their vehicle and were stopped by Officer Passaretti. Officers determined that they used a false Delaware driver’s license to purchase the alcohol. One of the defendants was also charged with possession of drugs. On May 22, a Bergen Avenue resident reported that her vehicle was broken into. Officers determined that the vehicle was parked in the street with the windows down and the doors were unlocked. The victim stated that her Dell lap top computer and computer case were stolen.

A volunteer firefighter, Giordano has been president of the fire department for the past 14 years and is a member of the Waldwick Lions Club and of the West Point Parents Association-New Jersey Chapter. He and his wife, Marion, have two children and are parishioners of St. Luke’s Church. Sciolaro is completing his second threeyear term. An 18-year resident, he holds degrees from Seton Hall and Fairleigh Dickinson universities and is the CEO of the National Kitchen and Bath Association. He currently serves as president of the Highlands Community Association, and previously served as vice president and park commissioner. Prior to joining the council, he served for 10 years on the Waldwick Library Board. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus and has coached soccer and softball. He and his wife, Karen, have two children and are parishioners of St. Luke’s Church.
