Ho-Ho-Kus June 2, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 11 Primary features three candidates, two ballot positions by Jennifer Crusco On June 8, registered Republican voters who reside in Ho-Ho-Kus will decide which two of the borough’s three GOP candidates will appear on the ballot in the November general election. Incumbent Republican Councilman Lee B. Flemming, and is running “off the line” due to his “significant disagreement with the council.” The officially endorsed Republican ticket includes Kevin Shea and Philip Rorty. Incumbent Republican Councilman Gordon Hamm previously announced that he would not seek reelection this year. Flemming is originally from Rochester, New York. He earned an MBA from the University of Buffalo and holds a teaching degree from the State University College at Buffalo. He spent 17 years in sales, marketing, and finance with Benjamin Moore, and later served as vice president of marketing for Muralo. He later became a full-time agent and development specialist with Abbott & Caserta, a local real estate concern. He is also involved in business development for HILTI North America, a major manufacturer of construction tools and supplies. The councilman has served as a coach for local soccer, basketball, and baseball teams, and was a coach for a local travel basketball team. Rorty is chairman of the Ho-Ho-Kus Republican County Committee, the organization responsible for recommending appointees to the council when members of the governing body step down, leaving unexpired terms. He is president of the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department, and a member of the borough planning board. He has resided in the borough for all but seven years of his life. He was educated at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School and subsequently graduated from Ridgewood High School and from Nichols College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Rorty is currently a vice president with Liberty International Underwriters. He has coached soccer and baseball, played in the local softball league, and served as an Assistant Cub Master. He and his wife, Nancy, have two children, James and Emily. Shea attended Cavallini School in Upper Saddle River and graduated from Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale. He double majored in English and economics at Fairfield University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. He has spent his entire career in trading and sales at Goldman Sachs. He and his wife, Dawn, also an active member of the community, have resided in town for six years. They previously lived in London, England with their three daughters. Their girls currently attend the local public school. Shea has been a member of the Ho-Ho-Kus Zoning Board of Adjustment for the past two years. He is a member of the board of the Dolan School of Business, and is active at Saint Gabriel’s Church.
