Participants sought for Annual Garage Sale Allendale residents are invited to participate in the Allendale Woman’s Club’s Seventh Annual Town-Wide Garage Sale on Saturday, Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Rain date: Sept. 26). The club will handle advertising and securing necessary permits, and the publishing and distribution of a map highlighting the addresses of all participating households. Lawn markers will be provided to identify all participating homes. To be included in this town-wide event, mail a tax deductible donation of $25 by Aug. 1 to: AWC, P.O. Box 284, Allendale, NJ 07401. Half of the proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit Rebuilding Together Bergen County (www.rebuildingtogetherbergen.org), an organization that provides critical home repairs at no cost to people in need, particularly seniors, the disabled, and low-income families with children. Browse through the large selection of current books for young children. There will also be many other books for children and adults at bargain prices. The sale is held in the lobby of the library during regular hours. The library is located at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. Girl Scouts hold membership drive The Allendale Girl Scouts are now accepting registrations for 2010-11. Girls and their families may sign up as members of a Girl Scout troop, or as individual Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey offers many exciting programs for girls of all ages. From visiting a local business to international travel, Girls Scouts has something to offer every girl. Financial assistance is available. Membership is open to girls ages five through 17. Career development group offered The Allendale Clergy Association has formed a career development group called Opening Doors. The group provides a venue for peer support, networking, and practical job search resources for those who are in transition or seeking to rejoin the workforce. Opening Doors will provide resources for those who seek a communal face-to-face setting, and for those who would prefer to access them from home. Weekly meetings are held on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Highlands Presbyterian Church, at 270 Franklin

The first Wednesday of each month begins with a specific career development topic such as self/career assessment, resume/cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and tutorials on networking sites. On-site WiFi will be available, and representatives from the business community and the Allendale clergy will be on hand at each meeting. Library offers bargain books Bargain books are available at the Lee Memorial Library located at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. This used book sale is sponsored by the Friends of the Library and includes children’s books, paperbacks, fiction and nonfiction, current best-sellers, and more all at bargain prices. Books are priced at from 25 cents to $1. Proceeds go directly to the library for the purchase of new materials. XYZ Club meets The XYZ Senior Citizens Club of Allendale meets on the first and third Friday of the month at the Calvary Lutheran Church, 165 West Crescent Avenue at 11 a.m. Allendale residents who would like to participate in club activities are most welcome. Library located at 100 Brookside Avenue in Allendale. Woman’s Club history sought The AWC is researching its club history. Current members are seeking former members of the Allendale Woman’s Club, Woman’s Evening Club, or Junior Woman’s Club of Allendale. The historians are looking for old yearbooks, scrapbooks, press books, photos, stories, or any pertinent information that may be available.
