Ambulance corps seeks new recruits The Waldwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps, which is comprised of trained members who provide the community with high quality ambulance service at no charge to the patient or the patient’s family, is seeking new volunteers. Since 1952, the Waldwick Ambulance Corps has been a privately-run volunteer service that depends upon volunteers to provide emergency care to the residents of Waldwick. Applications to join the corps are available at the Waldwick Police Department. Local students recognized The following Waldwick students have been named to the Dean’s List at their college or university for the 2010 spring semester: Daniel P. Freeman and Emily S. Ferencevych at Rowan University; and Tania Marisol Alvarado, Rodger J. Belisle, Leeann E. Cameron, Angelyn M. Conklin, Karen Jans, Stefany Rodriguez, Scott E. Schuermann, Kyle A. Ulscht, Steven T. Urgo, and Lucie H. Zvaleuskas at Ramapo College. Children’s programs set Full Effect Productions will bring the Magic Rabbit and his magician friend to the Waldwick Public Library, 19 East Prospect Street, on Saturday, July 31 at 11 a.m. Magician, ventriloquist, and funny man Steve Woyce will return this summer for another hilarious children’s show, “Make a Splash:
Read!” This program, which is suitable for children age three and up, is free and open to residents of Waldwick. The library will host three free programs for young residents in August. “Dragonflies Alight at Library” introduces children to the dragonflies, darners, skimmers, and more on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 11:45 a.m. Presented by professional educator Jerry Schneider of Vermont, this program is suitable for children ages five and up. Space is limited, and advance registration and proof of residency are required. “Rainbow Fish and the Deep Blue Sea,” a puppet show by Robert Rogers, will be at the library on Tuesday, Aug 17 at 11:45 a.m. Children ages three and up are invited to attend. Children’s musician Kurt Gallagher will perform on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 11:45 a.m. Children ages three and up are invited to sing along and maybe even be chosen to sing one of their favorite songs on stage. Marriage counseling available Waldwick United Methodist Church is offering Christian marriage counseling to couples who are seeking help with their marriages, and to those planning to enter into marriage. Explore Italy’s gardens Award-winning gardener Marguerite Guarisco will present “Exploring Italy’s
Magnificent Gardens” at the Waldwick Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Over 20 of Italy’s most prized gardens and majestic villas will be featured in this stunning visual presentation. The lecture will illustrate principles of classic garden design and the corresponding ideas that reached far beyond the garden walls into the realms of philosophy, poetry, and myth. This program will appeal to anyone who enjoys visiting gardens and/or touring the Italian countryside. Guarisco holds a master’s degree in anthropology from Montclair State University. She taught history and social science courses at North Warren Regional High School for 25 years and has taught adjunct classes at Sussex County Community College. An avid gardener, she is also a member of the board of directors of the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council. The program is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and advance registration is recommended. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. For more information, call (201) 652-5104. Vacation Bible School set Waldwick United Methodist Church, 25 Franklin Turnpike, will hold its Vacation Bible School Aug. 9 through 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. The program is open to children in
kindergarten through fifth grade. The cost of the “High Seas Expedition” is $10 per child. To register, call the church office at (201) 652-5130. Pool registration update Registration for the Waldwick Municipal Pool is underway. Registration may be completed by downloading the form from www.waldwicknj.org. Forms and payment can be returned by mail. First time registrants will need to do so in person at the borough clerk’s office in order to have badge photos taken. Permit costs for residents are $65 for adults, $60 for children four through 17; and $55 for seniors. The fee for non-resident adults and children will be $150 with the exception of children age three and younger. ESL programs break for summer The ESL Conversation Group and English Language Learning activities class that meet weekly at the Waldwick Public Library have concluded. Meetings will resume on Monday, Sept. 13 at 10:15 a.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m., respectively. The library’s ESL programs are free and open to adults who want assistance with learning and speaking English. For more information, call (201) 652-5104.
