Waldwick Girl Scout Troop 830 is currently seeking donations of perennials to continue their cleanup and beautification of the courtyard at Waldwick High School. The members of Troop 830 are working toward their Silver Award. The Silver Award is the second highest honor a Girl Scout can receive. In order for the girls to earn this award, they must complete several badges and engage in various activities, including a 40hour project. Since the troop’s members will enter Waldwick High School in the fall, they decided to clean up the courtyard with the hope that it will be a place students will be

able to use in the future. The girls thank The Home Depot’s Paramus and Mahwah stores for donating and discounting mulch, top soil, solar lights, and other items being used for this project. The Scouts also thank Waldwick Gardens for discounting perennials and for offering gardening advice. The girls began their project in the spring, working many hours raking, weeding, and cleaning up. They would like to begin planting as soon as possible. To donate perennials, contact Troop 830 at waldwicktroop830@yahoo.com. To schedule a pickup, call (201) 251-4078 or (201) 493-0406.
Award-winning gardener Marguerite Guarisco will present “Exploring Italy’s Magnificent Gardens” at the Waldwick Public Library on Thursday, Aug. 5 at 7:30 p.m. Over 20 of Italy’s most prized gardens and majestic villas will be featured in this stunning visual presentation. The lecture will illustrate principles of classic garden design and the corresponding ideas that reached far beyond the garden walls into the realms of philosophy, poetry, and myth. This program will appeal to anyone who enjoys visiting gardens and/or touring the Italian countryside.
