The staff of DMR Architects in Hasbrouck Heights recently volunteered to do construction work at the Habitat for Humanity home in Waldwick. To date, volunteer groups have finished the framing for the four units and nearly finished the siding, with sewer line hookup to be done this week. Yet to be done is the interior work, including sheetrocking, painting, and finishing. According to Jacey Raimondo, Habitat’s executive director, a family has already been certified by the state for the four-bedroom unit, with certification for the other three families expected within two weeks. Individuals or groups wishing to volunteer to work at the project may do so by visiting www.habitatbergen.org. Fundraising and sponsorship opportunities are also available. The project is expected to be completed by May, 2011.

Letters to the Editor
(continued from previous page) at The Forum School to pick the name of a Seeing Eye dog our club is sponsoring. The Waldwick Lions Club is a non-profit service organization consisting of civic-minded people who volunteer their time and effort for the welfare of those in need. The club has concentrated its efforts on aid to the blind and the support of sight conservation projects along with aid to the community. The Waldwick Lions Club raises money through various fundraisers throughout the year. This year, our club will sponsor a guide dog from the Seeing Eye Foundation. The Waldwick Lions Club felt the naming of the dog we sponsor should be a community event -- and what better way to name a puppy than with the help of our children? Each class in the school had the opportunity to enter a dog’s name and describe why the name should be selected. The Lions Club received 16 entries, and it was not an easy task to decide a winner. Ultimately, the club selected the winning name: Seymour. I would like to thank all of the children and teachers who participated in the competition. We received a lot of great names and were able to tell a lot of thought went into each. I would also like to thank Dr. Steven Krapes of The Forum School, Natale’s Pizzeria, and Ms. Anita Igen of the Seeing Eye Dog Foundation Puppy Program for bringing in Campy, a Seeing Eye Dog for the assembly held at the school.
