Bond ordinances include funding for improvements
by Jennifer Crusco Two bond ordinances that were recently introduced by the Ho-Ho-Kus Council aim to provide for various public improvements, including the acquisition of new equipment and vehicles. Ordinance #967 proposes the appropriation of $600,000 for various purchases, and Ordinance #968 proposes an appropriation of $78,000. Expenditures that would be covered by Ordinance #967 include a down payment of $200 for the borough’s share of a tub grinder cover. The tub grinder is used jointly with Waldwick. The cost of the cover is listed at $4,100, and the balance of the borough’s portion of this expense would be funded by bonds in the amount of $3,900. This ordinance also includes the acquisition of a new dump truck with a plow for the use of the department of public works. The estimated cost of the truck would be $61,000, with $3,000 to be funded by a down payment and the balance covered by bonds. Acquisition of a salt spreader for the DPW is also included in this measure. The cost of $16,300 would be funded by an $800 down payment and bonds in the amount of $15,500. Ordinance #967 also includes an appropriation of $249,400 for the resurfacing of various roads and the reconstruction of curbs where necessary. “Depending upon the contract price and other exigent circumstances, and upon approval by the borough council, there may be additions to or deletions from the…list (of roads to be resurfaced),” the ordinance states. The down payment for this year’s resurfacing project is $11,900, with the balance of $237,500 to be funded by bonds. Streetscape improvements in the vicinity of Sheridan Avenue (Phase III) have also been included at a cost of $55,000. After the $2,700 down payment, the balance of the project would be funded by bonds and notes in the amount of $52,300. This project would be covered by a $3,500 down payment and $68,000 in bonds. A sum of $55,000 has been earmarked for HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) repairs at various public buildings. This project will be funded by a $2,700 down payment and $52,300 in bonds. An additional sum of $21,400 is included for the acquisition of Scott packs, LDH supply hose conversion, pagers, and a fire hose for the Ho-Ho-Kus Volunteer Fire Department. Of the total expenditure, $1,100 would be a down payment and $20,300 would be funded by bonds. This ordinance also includes $25,500 for new computer server and printer for the finance department. Of the total cost, $1,300 would be covered by the down payment and $24,200 would be funded by bonds. A sum of $40,800 is earmarked for a four-wheel drive vehicle to be used by the police department. The purchase would be funded by a $2,000 down payment and $38,800 in bonds. Ordinance #968 includes expenditures for the benefit of the borough’s department of public works. This measure proposes an expenditure of $28,000 for a laptop computer for mobile water meter reading and $50,000 for a service body truck. Funding for the computer would include
a down payment of $1,400 and bonds in the amount of $26,600. Funding for the vehicle would include a down payment of $2,400 and bonds in the amount of $47,600. Both of these ordinances were introduced in June and will be up for public hearing at the July 27 council session.
