Book Sale underway The Friends of the Lee Memorial Library will offer a book sale, featuring children’s board books at five for $1, during the month of July. Browse through the large selection of current books for young children. There will also be many other books for children and adults at bargain prices. The sale is held in the lobby of the library during regular hours. The library is located at 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. Family Promise director to speak Kate Duggan, executive director of Family Promise, will be the guest speaker at the Archer United Methodist Church Worship Service on Sunday, July 25 at 10 a.m. Duggan will discuss the first Family Promise Network in Bergen County and the goal to expand existing volunteer programs in Bergen County to further assist homeless families return to their communities in housing they can afford. Summer Day Camp available The Gifted Child Society’s Summer Super Stars camp program has openings available for eligible children (age years through grade eight). The session will run from July 19 through Aug. 6. The four-period academic mornings include programs in science, technology, arts, and humanities. The recreational afternoon includes swimming, individual and team sports and games, computers, workshops on drama, arts and crafts, book clubs, chess, and more. Fridays are for field trips and on-site events. The camp is held at Northern Highlands Regional High School, 298 Hillside Avenue in Allendale. Camp hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. with extended supervision available for the convenience of working parents. Summer arts academy offers classes The Brookside Summer Arts Academy, formerly known as the Brookside Summer Music Program, is offering classes for students who are entering kindergarten through grade eight. Courses will include a ceramics workshop, painting studio, Broadway dance class, chorus theater workshop, and music theory. The next session will begin July 19. Girls and their families may sign up as members of a Girl Scout troop, or as individual Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey offers many exciting programs for girls of all ages. From visiting a local business to international travel, Girls Scouts has something to offer every girl. Financial assistance is available. Membership is open to girls ages five through 17. New to the shop are two white fabric
side chairs, a starter drum set, prom and special occasion gowns, a microwave, and designer clothes. The Clothes Line Thrift Shop is located in the Archer United Methodist Church at the corner of Franklin Turnpike and East Allendale Avenue. Hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The shop will remain open until the end of June, and will close for July and August. For more information, call (201) 327-0020. Book drive planned Northern Highland’s National Honor Society is collecting gently used books for the Knowledge is Power Program School in Harlem, New York. Books are needed for readers at any level. KIPP helps bright inner-city children from low-income families further their education. Insufficient funding has left the library without enough books for these students. Collection boxes will be located at in the front lobby at
