Ho-Ho-Kus
Cleanup regulations to become more stringent
A new ordinance introduced by the Ho-Ho-Kus Council aims to amend the borough code regarding dogs. Specifically, the proposed ordinance would require dog owners to clean up after their pets, but not to dispose of dog waste in a public trash receptacle, storm drain, or any part of the sewage system. Under Ordinance #966, dog owners would be required to remedy any petrelated nuisance. “In the event that any dog shall, through inadvertence or otherwise, soil, defile, defecate on or commit any nuisance in any place, including the portion of the public street, if there are no curbs, the person owning, harboring, keeping or in charge of such dog or in custody of such dog shall immediately remove all feces and/or all dog soil deposited by such dog by any sanitary method, thereafter disposing of the same in a sealed nonabsorbent, leak proof container. In no event shall any person dispose of any feces, dog soil or any type of receptacle containing same into any public trash receptacle, stormwater drain or sewage system. The ordinance was introduced last month. A public hearing has been scheduled for the July 27 council session, which is presently scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. in Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall. The council has yet to decide if it will hold a combined work session and public meeting on that date. J. CRUSCO
