Board appoints new director of special services
The Waldwick Board of Education last week appointed a new director of special services to replace Dr. Carol Lynch, who retired in December, 2008. Patricia Farina has been serving as an interim director until the permanent director is in place. Victoria Wilson, who now holds a similar position for the Wanaque, Ringwood and Lakeland Regional school districts, will begin her duties in Waldwick on July 1. Her salary will be $115,000 a year. “I am very honored and excited about the appointment and look forward to becoming part of the Waldwick School System next year,” said Wilson after the meeting. She said that she knows several individuals that are currently employed in the district and are very happy there. “Waldwick has a positive energy and I want to share in that,” she said. Noting that “great people skills” are her strong suit, Wilson said that initially she wants to get to know the students, staff and community at large and give the community a chance to get to know her Asked to highlight some highlights of her career, Wilson (continued on page 16)
Three teachers honored at meeting
Three Waldwick Public Schools educators were honored last week for their exceptional contributions to the borough’s schools. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Penna presented them with awards during last week’s board of education meeting. Mary Coulon, who started working in the district in September, 1990 as a part-time teacher at Crescent School and is now a fifth grade collaborative teacher, has a master’s degree as a learning disabilities consultant.
