Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • January 27, 2010 Allendale Borough council prepares to vote on salary ordinance by John Koster The Allendale Borough Council is poised to vote on a ����������������� �������������������� new salary ordinance for municipal employees at its Jan. 28 meeting. The ordinance does not include salaries for members of the local Policemen’s Benevolent Association or for employees of the Allendale Department of Public Works. The ordinance provides ranges, rather than specific salaries, for borough employees. The chief of police, who is not a member of the PBA, will receive a salary in the range of $96,000 to $146,404. The borough clerk and administrative officer – currently the same person – will receive a salary in the range of $60,000 to $90,229. The director of operations, who covers the administrative aspects of road work, will be paid in the range of $50,000 to $108,108. The superintendent of the water utility will be paid in the range of $55,000 to $84,304. The administrative secretary of the water department will be paid $40,000 to $55,821. The chief financial officer will receive a salary in the range of $59,000 to $73,000, and the bookkeeper will receive a salary in the range of $40,000 to $55,094, while the tax/finance clerk will receive a salary of $35,000 to $45,738. The tax assessor will receive a salary in the range of $34,000 to $39,501. The salary of the construction code official, who shares his time between Allendale and Midland Park, will range between $25,000 and $63,576 for his duties in Allendale. The ordinance also establishes hourly ranges for parttime employees. Allendale recently went through a process of consolidation in which some senior workers split the responsibility for two jobs to reduce salary and insurance costs. �������������� ������������������������������������� ���������������������������������������� ���������������������� In response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Carol Gates and Claudia Sanchez, sales associates of Terrie O’Connor Realtors, will be facilitating a fundraiser at Allendale Bar & Grill on Jan. 26. The two will be bartending at AB&G’s second floor bar during Happy Hour (4 to 6 p.m.). Appetizers will also be available. Donations will be accepted for the Rose Foundation of Haiti during this event. The chefs and several members of the kitchen staff at both the Allendale Bar and Grill and Mahwah Bar and Grill are from Haiti and have families there. Chef Pierre, head chef in Allendale, established the Rose Foundation a few months ago to assist people living Fundraising effort to benefit Haiti in Haiti. Now, the Haitian people’s needs are both urgent and unprecedented. Pierre reported that the foundation is non-profit (TAX ID 90-0494130) and all of the money raised goes to those in need. His sister will reportedly be going to Haiti as part of the relief effort, and the money from the foundation will flow through his sister and others they know in the areas hardest hit.
