Prostate cancer group to meet LifeLines, a supportive and informative resource for prostate cancer patients and their partners in Northern Bergen County, will meet Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 7:45 to 9 p.m. at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River. The group was formed by prostate cancer patients to share information and experience about available treatment and service resources. Swine flu clinic set The Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission has scheduled a H1N1 clinic for Upper Saddle River residents on Wednesday, Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Church of the Presentation, 271 West Saddle River Road, in Upper Saddle River. Two school board seats available The Upper Saddle River Board of Education will have two vacancies in the April 20 school election. Each opening is for a three-year term. Candidates may file a petition with the local school board in order to be placed on the ballot. The deadline for filing a petition is 4 p.m. Monday, March 1. Register for baseball and softball Online registration is underway for the 2010 Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Baseball and Softball Season. Residents of Ho-HoKus and Saddle River may sign up their
children in kindergarten through grade nine by accessing the HHK/SR Baseball and Softball Association website at http:// www.hhksrbsa.com/. The cost for registration is $90 for children in kindergarten and first grade, and $115 for children in grades two through nine. Registration ends Feb. 1. Register for men’s softball league Registration is open for the 2010 spring season of the Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Men’s Softball League. Now in its 37th season, the league is modified-pitch style and plays on Sunday mornings from March 28 through the end of June. The cost per player is $85. The registration deadline is March 1. Foundation to host gala The Upper Saddle River Educational Foundation will be holding its seventh annual Gala Dinner Dance, Town Night Out, on Friday, March 19 at the Estate at Florentine Gardens in River Vale. The evening will be a community-wide celebration. It will be a lavish cocktail party featuring international food stations, premium open bar, Viennese table, music, and fabulous fundraisers. All proceeds will benefit the students in kindergarten through grade eight in Upper Saddle River. Tickets are on sale now and are $230 per couple or $115 per person. USREF will be honoring the 2010 recipient of the USREF Award for Educational Excellence. The award is given annually to an Upper Saddle River resident who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to the community and significant civic leadership. Lions Club recycles eyeglasses For more than 60 years, Lions clubs have been collecting used eyeglasses for recycling. Donated glasses are either given to support local eyeglass recycling efforts or shipped to one of seven official Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers. The Saddle River Valley Lions Club has placed “eyeglass collection boxes” through the club area. Gold and purple boxes with the Lions logo can be found at the following locations: Mahwah: Bank of America, Town Hall, Library and a drive up white box at 190 Franklin Turnpike; Ramsey: Town Hall, Library, Ramsey High School, Quality Optical (Main Street); Saddle River: Bank of America; and Upper Saddle River: Library. Free audiobook software available The Upper Saddle River Library is offering free software for patrons who wish to upgrade to the latest version of OverDrive Media Console 3.2. This program will allow nearly all audiobooks from www.beateaudio.org to be transferred to the iPod®, iPhone™, iPod touch®, and iPod nano®, as
well as the Zune® and other MP3 players, from a Windows® computer. Click on the audiobooks button and install the free software. Check out with a library card, and then download to enjoy titles on a computer, MP3 player (including Apple® devices), and burn many titles to CD. Support group offered Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River is offering a support program for individuals going through separation and divorce. Participants will learn the process of change, communication, and self-awareness while discovering a path for human growth and self esteem. Teams of trained facilitators will assist in coaching the emotions of grief, anger, guilt, loneliness, fear, anxiety, depression, forgiveness, and self-love.
