January 27, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 17 Allendale Notebook Kindergarten orientation set Orientation for parents of children who will be entering kindergarten in September 2010 will be held on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. in the Hillside School all-purpose room. This program provides parents with an overview of the Hillside kindergarten program and curriculum. Kindergarten registration will take place on Monday, March 8 for pupils whose last names begin with A through M, and Tuesday, March 9 for those with last names beginning with N through Z. Registration time will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at Hillside School. Parents must bring proof of child’s birth, such as a birth or baptismal certificate or passport, a copy of your child’s immunization history, and proof of residency (copy of lease, driver’s license, utility bill, etc.) to registration. Children may be enrolled in kindergarten if they are five years of age by Oct. 1 of the year they will begin school. Should a child be six years of age or older as of Oct. 1, 2010, a kindergarten screening date will be scheduled, as per board of education policy. Based on the screening results, parents will be advised as to the placement of a child in either kindergarten or in first grade. All children entering kindergarten must have a physical dated after Jan. 1, 2010, and all immunizations must be up-to-date as required by the State of New Jersey. The school nurse will be present at registration to answer health questions and to review the children’s records. The snow date for the orientation will be on Monday, March 8 at 7 p.m. Snow date for registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m., on Monday, March 15 for pupils whose last name begins with A through M and Tuesday, March 16 for pupils with last names beginning with N through Z. Gallagher to perform Children’s entertainer Kurt Gallagher is scheduled to perform on Wednesday, Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. Children ages two through seven are invited to sing along as Gallagher performs his zany musical repertoire. The event, which is being presented by the Allendale Woman’s Club, is free for Allendale residents. The program will be held at the Allendale Borough Hall upstairs meeting room. Space is limited to the first 50 children and pre-registration is required. Parents are required to stay with their children during the performance. Candidates sought for election The Allendale Republican Policy Committee is seeking candidates for two borough council seats and the mayor’s position to run in the June 8 primary election. Potential candidates for the Allendale Borough Council may apply for the endorsement of the Allendale Republican Organization by contacting Jackie McSwiggan, (201) 818-4027, jmcswiggan@optonline. net, before Wednesday, Feb. 24. Candidates should provide a brief biography and statement as to their interest and qualifications for the council position. All applicants must be registered Republicans in order to be considered in the annual convention of the Allendale Republican Organization prior to the primary filing date. Scouts plan Pancake Breakfast Cub Scout Pack 59 will host its annual Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, March 13 at Northern Highlands Regional High School from 8 a.m. to noon. Winter Book Sale set Friends of the Allendale Library will hold a Winter Book Sale on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Lee Memorial Library, 500 West Crescent Avenue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A wide variety of new and gently used fiction and nonfiction books for adults and children, including many current best-sellers, history, science fiction, education, travel, and more at bargain prices, starting at 25 cents. Proceeds from the sale go toward the purchase of new books and other resources for the library. Dollar Saturday Sale set The Clothes Line Thrift Shop is having a $1 sale on Saturday, Feb. 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All items are $1 with the exception of coats, jackets, and gowns. The Clothes Line Thrift Shop is located in Archer United Methodist church at the corner of Franklin Turnpike and East Allendale Avenue, Allendale. The Thrift Shop’s regular hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Beginning in March the thrift shop will begin accepting spring clothing and jackets for men, women, and children. Auxiliary plans wine tasting The Allendale Branch of the Valley Hospital Auxiliary will host its Fourth Annual Wine Tasting at Park and Orchard Restaurant in East Rutherford on Sunday, Jan. 31 from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets are $60 each and include an extensive selection of red and white wines and hot and cold appetizers. A special fundraiser and other pre-Super Bowl activities will also be part of this event. All proceeds will go directly to Valley Hospital’s Center for Women’s Heart Health, which was established to raise awareness of the cause, symptoms, and prevalence of heart disease in women, and to provide comprehensive heart risk assessments. Pastamania returns The Northern Highlands Regional High School Sports Association will host its annual Pastamania event on Tuesday, Jan. 26. (Snow date: Jan. 27.)
