Chamber group to perform ‘All Seasons Greetings’
The All Seasons Chamber Players will return to the Upper Saddle River Public Library on Sunday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m. with its program “All Seasons Greetings.” The ensemble will use its Flemish harpsichord in combination with flute and strings to perform favorite works from the baroque period. The program will include music from countries in the musical vanguard of the Baroque era: Italy, France, Spain, and Germany. All Seasons Chamber Players will present Arcangelo Corelli’s “Trio Sonata in D,” two virtuoso solo works by the Spanish master Padre Antonio Soler performed by Ron Levy, George Frideric Handel’s “Sonata in D for Violin and Continuo,” J.S. Bach’s “Sonata for Flute and Continuo VI in E,” Francois Couperin’s “Pieces en Concert for Cello and Hapsichord,” and Georg Philipp Telemann’s “Trio Sonata in G Minor.” Program Director Robert Lawrence will introduce each selection to the audience with personal spoken program notes. Levy, who is joining the ensemble for its harpsichord programs, is well known to many music lovers in Bergen County through his solo performances with various orchestras and choral groups and appearances with the Palisades Virtuosi. He has also concertized widely in Canada and Europe and his recordings are available on the Albany, Centaur, Eroica, Koch, International, MMF, and Summit labels. He is an associate artist with All Seasons Chamber Players. All Seasons’ members are professional musicians who also perform with major area orchestras, Broadway shows, and summer music festivals. They include flutist Brenda Sakofsky of New City, New York, violinist Robert Lawrence of New York City, cellist E. Zoe Hassman of New York City, harpsichordist Jean Strickholm of Demarest, and harpsichordist Ron Levy of Teaneck. Admission is free and the public is invited. The library is located at 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River and provides ample seating and parking. Advance reservations are not needed. The library is wheelchair accessible. Now in its 29th season, the All Seasons Chamber Players ensemble has performed over 600 concerts throughout the metropolitan area and has been a regular attraction at the Upper Saddle River Library since 2005. The ensemble has also been heard on Cablevision’s MetroArts/13 programs and other cable TV stations in New Jersey. Winner of the Award for Artistic Excellence from the Bergen County Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs, the ensemble has received numerous grants from public and private sources.
