Residents of Ho-Ho-Kus and Saddle River may sign up their children in grades kindergarten through nine by accessing the HHK/SR Baseball and Softball Association website at http://www.hhksrbsa.com/. The cost for registration is $90 for children in kindergarten and first grade, and $115 for children in grades two through nine. Registration ends Feb. 1. Hamilton to address gardeners The Ho-Ho-Kus Garden Club will meet Jan. 25 in the council chambers of Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall at 7:30 p.m. Heidi Hamilton, master gardener and garden designer, will discuss “Whimsy in the Garden.” All members and prospective members are invited. Kindergarten registration set The Ho-Ho-Kus Public School will hold kindergarten registration on Thursday, Jan. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration will be held in the school library, 70 Lloyd Road, Ho-Ho-Kus. Incoming kindergartners must be five years old on or before Oct. 1. A parent or guardian will need to bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and two forms of proof of residency (a copy of the deed to the home or a fully executed rental lease, and a copy of a current utility bill) to registration. VFW seeks memorabilia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 192 in Ho-Ho-Kus is seeking photos, newspaper clippings, post cards, maps, aerial photos, and similar items featuring HoHo-Kus and the immediate area, including the Hopper-Zabriskie Cemetery on First Street in Ho-Ho-Kus, prior to 1966. These items will be used for the VFW Post’s history project. All materials will be returned after scanning and copying. Contact Stanley Kober at (201) 445-1121. Borough hall changes hours of operation Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall hours of operation have been changed to 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. (Hours were previously 8:30 to 5.) The change will eliminate the need for shift changes of borough hall employees and will cut down on energy use. The change will not affect the standard 35-hour work week for borough hall employees. Hours of operation for the Ho-Ho-Kus Department of Public Works and police department will remain unchanged. Box Tops drive underway The Home and School Association will be collecting Box Tops for Education Labels throughout the 2009-10 school year. The community is asked to save the labels on purchases and bring them to the collection box located in borough hall. Each label is worth 10 cents to the school. Alverson also played the Post’s automated bugle with the military tunes Assembly/Retreat/To the Colors associated with the Flag Lowering ceremony. Hudson’s travels to be discussed Tom O’Brien will present “Henry Hudson: Life, Times, and Voyages” to the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors on Tuesday, Jan 26 at the Hermitage, 335 North Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus. This lecture and visual presentation in honor of the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s exploration of the Hudson River is based on actual logs and diaries kept by officers and crew members, including facts relevant to the times, ships, geography, and inhabitants of the explored areas. Members of the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the education building of the Hermitage. Beverages and dessert are served at noon and programs begin at 1 p.m. Residents 55 and over are welcome to attend meetings, programs, and trips.
