Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • January 13, 2010 Waldwick Council reorganizes; Farricker to serve as president Charles Farricker has been named president of the Waldwick Borough Council. He succeeds Councilman Donald Sciolaro, who held the post last year. Farricker, who won reelection to his seat on the governing body in a contested November election, moved to Waldwick in 1985. He has served on the council since 2006. He has served as the council’s liaison to the board of education and as chairman of the Recreation and Health Committee. He is a member of Saint Luke’s parish and served as a mentor to the youth group. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he is on the Golf and Scholarship committees. Farricker is a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He has coached recreational softball and soccer, and was a baseball umpire for over 25 years. He has also been a basketball referee for over 30 years. He is a senior underwriter at Western World Insurance Company in Franklin Lakes. He holds a degree in economics and business administration from William Paterson. From 1970 to 1972, he served in the U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of sergeant. In his comments to those who attended the reorganization session, Waldwick Mayor Russell “Buddy” Litchult noted the opportunities that present themselves each day of the year. He thanked the borough’s many employees and volunteers, and highlighted a few outstanding achievements. Mayor Litchult pointed to the Blue Ribbon Award which was presented to the Julia A. Traphagen School last year, noting that only a select few American schools receive this honor. Jon Corzine attended the official celebration in the fall. Litchult also noted Borough Administrator Gary Kratz’s successful effort to purchase and donate the foreclosed home on Wyckoff Avenue to Habitat for Humanity. “It is a win-win situation for all. This project will be completed shortly,” Litchult said. The mayor noted that the borough budget will be a challenge in 2010. “Two projects we would like to move forward using outside funds are: first, to get a barrier-free walkway at the train station. Last year, a letter was sent to our two United States Senators regarding this matter and, in January, we will be meeting with them to plead our case. Secondly, (we hope) to enhance our lake, one of the beautiful focal points of our town.” Litchult said the lake needs to be dredged and the area revitalized for recreational use. The mayor said the governing body has a very simple philosophy: “We believe that we were put on this earth for a purpose. That purpose is to make it within our capabilities a better place in which to live. That is why it’s an honor to serve the people of Waldwick – the town with the big heart.” Award-winning artist to sign book Award-winning artist and graphic designer Andrea Mistretta will sign copies of her new book, “Mardi Gras Parade of Posters,” at the Waldwick Public Library on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 3 p.m. The renowned Waldwick artist’s series of Mardi Gras posters has become a time-honored tradition in the course of its 25-year presence in New Orleans. Published and distributed every year in the Crescent City, the dazzling posters have been collected for the first time in a one-volume retrospective. Copies of the book and copies of Mardi Gras posters will be offered for sale at the library for $20 each. The program will begin with a presentation by the artist about her hand-painting techniques, the multi-layered meaning in each of her posters, and the progress that the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity has made in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Proceeds from the sale of posters at the library will be donated to the Waldwick Habitat for Humanity project; five percent of the sale of the book will be donated to the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity. The program is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and advance registration is recommended. For more information call (201) 652-5104.
