Annual Fashion Show fundraiser set The Waldwick High School Graduation Ball Committee will hold its annual Fashion Show fundraiser and dinner on Tuesday, March 2 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Seasons Restaurant in Washington Township. Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner, the fashion show, and one sheet of tickets for the prize baskets. Tickets will be on sale through Feb. 25. Tickets to the fundraiser are $15 and include dinner and a chance to win over 100 baskets and prizes. Prizes include YMCA membership, comedy club tickets, restaurant gift cards and more. Church sets services The Waldwick United Methodist Church’s prayer and worship service has been expanded to include the fourth Wednesday of each month in addition to the second Wednesday. The group meets from 7 to 7:45 p.m. A mid-week prayer and worship service will be held the second Wednesday of every month from 7 to 7:45 p.m. All are welcome. Annual Fish and Chips dinner set The Waldwick United Methodist Church, 25 Franklin Turnpike, will host its Annual Fish and Chips Dinner on Monday, March 8 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The dinner will include fish, chips, coleslaw, dessert, and beverage. Nursery school opens registration Registration at Rainbow Corners Cooperative Nursery School, 25 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick, is now open for children ages two-and-a-half to five years. In addition to a traditional 9 to 11:30 a.m. nursery school program, special programs Lunch and Play and Creative Capers extend and enrich the school day. Films feature romance and adventure The Waldwick Library’s Classic Film Series will feature romance and African adventure during the month of February. Screenings are held on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. Mickey Mouse collectibles on exhibit The Mickey Mouse collectibles of Doris Wagner are on display at the Waldwick Public Library, where they will remain through Saturday, Feb. 27. Among the many colorful Mickey and Minnie Mouse items on display are dolls, bears, toys, figurines, commemorative pins, a tote bag, basket, and blanket. Demonstrating how long the collector has been a fan of the famous mouse, the exhibit also features a 1933 black and white photograph of Wagner in a Minnie Mouse Halloween costume. The Mickey Mouse exhibit represents just a fraction of the thousands of collectibles that have found a home in the house that Wagner’s grandfather built on Cleveland Avenue in 1902. An avid collector of dolls, bears, beanie babies, spoons, cookbooks, postcards, and almost anything else you can name, Wagner traces her interest in collecting to early childhood when Santa brought her a new doll every year. Donations of products, services sought Building Blocks Child Center is seeking donations of products and services from local business to be featured during the center’s Beefsteak Dinner and Auction. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase new playground equipment and to repaint the interior of the facility. The fundraiser will be held April 24 at 6 p.m. in the school gym at 136 Wyckoff Avenue, Waldwick. Tickets are $30 per person and include beefsteak dinner with salad, french fries, beverage, ice cream and coffee, and a starter kit with auction tickets. Fornaci exhibits at library The fine art of Julie Fornaci is will be on display at the Waldwick Public Library through Saturday, Feb. 27. The artist, a resident of Hawthorne, specializes in plein air, portrait, still life, and figurative oil paintings. The paintings included in the exhibit feature companion landscapes of a marina, a vibrant Italian street scene, colorful florals, still life compositions, and a striking view of the famous Cape Neddick Lighthouse. Fornaci left a career in children’s book publishing several years ago to pursue her lifelong passion for painting. She studied oil painting with Rosanna Pinero of the Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy, and with master artist John Osborne and Lorraine Minetto at the Ridgewood Art Institute. Fornaci travels to paint en plein air to better understand the flow of light over varied landscapes and to capture the essence of diverse cultures. Her work has been acquired by several collectors and published by Scholastic, Inc., and Hachette Publishing. The artist is a member of Oil Painters of America, Ridgewood Art Institute, and the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. Jeers and applause for the Academy Awards Film enthusiast Bill Levy will present, “Jeers and Applause for the Academy Awards,” at the Waldwick Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. Ten days before the airing of the 82nd annual Academy Awards, Levy will discuss positive and negative views of the Oscars, and examine certain long-term preferences of the Academy’s voting members that help determine the winners. The Academy’s move to nominate 10 films this year, instead of the traditional five, makes room for more popular films, a more interesting horse race, and the possibility of a March surprise.
