The last day to purchase tickets is March 1. Free swine flu vaccines available Borough Nurse Carol Shepard has available a supply of H1N1 vaccine to be administered to anyone who has not received it. Church announces services The Waldwick United Methodist Church’s prayer and worship service has been expanded to include the fourth Wednesday of each month in addition to the second Wednesday. The group meets from 7 to 7:45 p.m. On Feb. 17, there will be a Lenten Service at 7:30 p.m. A mid-week prayer and worship service will be held the second Wednesday of every month from 7 to 7:45 p.m. All are welcome. Chamber to meet The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce will hold its next general meeting Feb. 17 at 8:30 a.m. at The Energy Zone, Juice Bar and Cafe located at Superdome Sports, 134 Hopper Avenue, Waldwick. Annual Fashion Show fundraiser set The Waldwick High School Graduation Ball Committee will hold its annual Fashion Show fundraiser and dinner on Tuesday, March 2 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at Seasons Restaurant in Washington Township. Tickets are $50 per person and include dinner, the fashion show, and one sheet of tickets for the prize baskets. Tickets will be on sale through Feb. 25. Students of the Month announced As part of the student recognition program at Waldwick High School and Waldwick Middle School have named their Students of the Month for January. Faculty members made the selections. Waldwick High School students who were honored are Michelle Hartmann for athletics, Jeffrey Sherman for introduction to business administration, and Nicholas Benitez for instrumental music. Waldwick Middle School students who received recognition are sixth grader Diana Lara, seventh grader Nick Van Ness, and eighth grader Fatima Orellana. Nursery school opens registration Registration at Rainbow Corners Cooperative Nursery School, 25 Franklin Turnpike, Waldwick, is now open for children ages two-and-a-half to five years. Club to discuss novel by Lisa See The Waldwick Library Book Club will host a discussion of “Peony in Love” by Lisa See on Thursday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Set in 17th century China, See’s fifth novel, is a coming-of-age story, a ghost story, a family saga, and a work of social and musical history. For information, call (201) 652-5104. Films feature romance and adventure The Waldwick Library’s Classic Film Series will feature romance and African adventure during the month of February. Screenings are held on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. The schedule includes Feb. 11, “Snows of Kilimanjaro” (1952); and Feb. 25, “King Solomon’s Mines” (1950). Mickey Mouse collectibles on exhibit The Mickey Mouse collectibles of Doris Wagner are on display at the Waldwick Public Library, where they will remain through Saturday, Feb. 27. Among the many colorful Mickey and Minnie Mouse items on display are dolls, bears, toys, figurines, commemorative pins, a tote bag, basket, and blanket. Demonstrating how long the collector has been a fan of the famous mouse, the exhibit also features a 1933 black and white photograph of Wagner in a Minnie Mouse Halloween costume. The Mickey Mouse exhibit represents just a fraction of the thousands of collectibles that have found a home in the house that Wagner’s grandfather built on Cleveland Avenue in 1902. An avid collector of dolls, bears, beanie babies, spoons, cookbooks, postcards, and almost anything else you can name, Wagner traces her interest in collecting to early childhood when Santa brought her a new doll every year. Wagner’s mother was a seamstress and crafted many fashionable dresses for her and her dolls. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. Donations of products, services sought Building Blocks Child Center is seeking donations of products and services from local business to be featured during the center’s Beefsteak Dinner and Auction. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase new playground equipment and to repaint the interior of the facility. The fundraiser will be held April 24 at 6 p.m. in the school gym at 136 Wyckoff Avenue, Waldwick. Tickets are $30 per person and include beefsteak dinner with salad, french fries, beverage, ice cream and coffee, and a starter kit with auction tickets.
