Hospital association honors Kandravy
Ridgewood resident John Kandravy, chairman of both the Valley Health System Board of Trustees and the Valley Home Care Board of Trustees, was recently honored with the Trustee of the Year Award at the 91st Annual Meeting of the New Jersey Hospital Association. The NJHA Trustee of the Year Award recognizes outstanding leadership within hospital or health system boards of trustees, which are comprised of community members who volunteer their time. Kandravy began his service with The Valley Hospital in 1992. Since that time, he has held a number of positions on the boards of trustees of The Valley Hospital, Valley Home Care, and Valley Health System. “John is an outstanding trustee who has contributed years of service and leadership to this hospital and health system and to the community,” said Audrey Meyers, president and CEO of The Valley Hospital and Valley Health System. “Valley has benefited enormously from John’s 18 years of exemplary leadership.” Kandravy, a lawyer, is a partner in the Florham Park office of the national law firm of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP. An active community volunteer, Kandravy also serves as chairman and president of the board of trustees of The Forum School Foundation; a member and vice president of the board of trustees of The Forum School, a private school for developmentally disabled children; and chairman of the board of Trustees of Children’s Aid and Family Services.

The financial-services firm Edward Jones ranked No. 2 on Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For 2010” list in its 11th year on the prestigious list. Edward Jones also ranked No. 1 for large-sized companies. Edward Jones’ 11 Fortune rankings include top 10 finishes for eight years and consecutive No. 1 rankings in 2002 and 2003. This is the firm’s second consecutive year in the No. 2 spot. Fortune editors said: “The investment adviser weathered the recession without closing one of its 12,615 offices or laying off a single employee. Salaries were frozen, but profit sharing continued.” To pick the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” Fortune partners with the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research firm with offices in 30 countries, to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on the survey, sent to randomly selected employees. The survey asks questions related to employees’ attitudes about the management’s credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The remaining third is based on a company’s responses to the Institute’s Culture Audit questionnaire, which asks about demographics, pay and benefits, and open-ended questions about hiring, communication, and diversity.
