February 3, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 19 Ho-Ho-Kus Jottings Nursery school to host Open House The Ho-Ho-Kus/Waldwick Cooperative Nursery School will hold an Open House on Friday, Feb. 5 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents and their preschoolers are invited to stop in to see the classrooms and meet with the teachers and current members. Classes for two-, three- and four-year-old children are available for the 2010-11 school year. The nursery school offers various educational enrichment programs including music and Spanish. Extended day options are available. The school offers a unique coop opportunity to assist in the classroom. The school is located at 400 Warren Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. Lovi to exhibit at library The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library, 91 Warren Avenue, Ho-Ho-Kus, will be hosting Armin J. Lovi as the artist for the month of February. A Mahwah resident, Lovi enjoys photographing flowers, architecture, and candid views of people. Using both digital and film (color and black & white) and various 33mm and medium format cameras, Lovi continues to study and experiment with lenses in different light and locations. His work has been featured at Ramapo College of New Jersey fundraising events. Register for men’s softball league Registration is open for the 2010 spring season of the Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Men’s Softball League. Now in its 37th season, the league is modified-pitch style and plays on Sunday mornings from March 28 through the end of June. The cost per player is $85. The registration deadline is March 1. VFW seeks memorabilia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 192 in Ho-Ho-Kus is seeking photos, newspaper clippings, post cards, maps, aerial photos, and similar items featuring Ho-Ho-Kus and the immediate area, including the HopperZabriskie Cemetery on First Street in HoHo-Kus, prior to 1966. These items will be used for the VFW Post’s history project. All materials will be returned after scanning and copying. Contact Stanley Kober at (201) 445-1121. Borough hall changes hours Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall hours of operation have been changed to 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. (Hours were previously 8:30 to 5.) The change will eliminate the need for shift changes of borough hall employees and will cut down on energy use. The change will not affect the standard 35-hour work week for borough hall employees. Hours of operation for the Ho-Ho-Kus Department of Public Works and police department will remain unchanged. Box Tops for Education underway The Home and School Association will be collecting Box Tops for Education Labels throughout the 2009-10 school year. The Village School middle school class recently held its annual pancake breakfast. Proceeds of this event are always donated to charity. This year, they raised $1,971 and 75% will be going towards Haitian Relief. Funds will be divided evenly among Doctors without Borders, UNICEF and the Bouceldart Montessori School in Haiti. Brotherly breakfast The community is asked to save the labels on purchases and bring them to the collection box located in borough hall. Each label is worth 10 cents to the school. Library accepts exhibits The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library invites local artists, collectors or area residents with interesting collections to contact the library if they would be interested in displaying their collections at the library located at 91 Warren Avenue. Volunteer Office Cookbook available “Treasures from Ho-Ho-Kus,” a revised version of the “Ho-Ho-Kus Hostesses” (1975) is now available from the Contemporary Club for $20. This cookbook contains favorite recipes from residents, U.S. presidents, the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn, and the Hermitage. Proceeds from this year will go to The Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus.
