Although he grew up in River Edge, Brunner is known locally, as his mother is a health inspector for various communities, including the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus. Over the years, Brunner became a HoHo-Kus Garden Club Scholarship recipient and a three-time winner of the New Jersey Garden Club’s Adella L. Wotherspoon Scholarship for Environmental Studies. In 2006, he received the Hackensack Riverkeeper scholarship. He graduated from River Dell Regional High School in 2006. This year, he graduated from the University of Vermont, where he received a bachelor’s degree in environmental science with an emphasis on environmental economics. When he was growing up, Brunner enjoyed exploring the local parks, including The McFaul Environmental Center in Wyckoff and Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah. “Our family has always been outdoor minded: skiing, hiking, and camping,” Gail Brunner explained. “We have a country house in northeast Pennsylvania where Keith and his brother Patrick, a student at the University of Colorado, spent much of their time catching critters and learning about wildlife.” Gail and Charles Brunner believe Keith experienced a turning point when he took a water ecology class with Dr. Terrance Mil- ligan at River Dell Regional High School. In that class, the future blogger learned how to sample stream water while researching local wetlands. At the University of Vermont, Keith was extremely active in environmental causes, his parents said. He helped organize a (con(group to attend Power Shift in Washington, and worked at the ECHO Lake (continued on page 10) WINTER CLASSES • JAN 3 to APRIL 2, 2010 Tues, Wed, Thurs AM 9:30-12:00 Mon-Thurs PM 7:30-10:00 Saturday AM 10:00-12:30 13 Weeks, $390 Intermediate-Advanced: Mon AM $468 Wortendyke Pottery Studio ADULT CLASSES Monday - Friday PM 3:30-5:30 13 Weeks, $364 HOLIDAY GIFTS & CERTIFICATES AVAILABLE CHILDREN’S CLASSES 201-652-5882 211 GREENWOOD AVE MIDLAND PARK www.wortendykestudio.com 304 S.
