Preschool program announces openings The Ho-Ho-Kus Public School has six general education student openings in the integrated preschool program that will begin in September 2011. The integrated preschool program incorporates the education of children with special education needs with children of the general education population. Students in the program range in age from three through five. The program is held in Ho-Ho-Kus Public School on Lloyd Road, Ho-Ho-Kus, from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m., Monday through Friday, in accordance with the school calendar. To be eligible, general education students must be at least three years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2011. Applications for general education preschoolers are due by Jan. 14, 2011 and may be picked up in the main office of the school or downloaded from the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School website at www.hohokus.org. Students will be screened for admission to the program during January and early February. The six openings will be filled by a lottery on Feb. 17. Tuition for 2011-12 is $3,000. December meetings to be consolidated The Ho-Ho-Kus Council, which generally meets on the third and fourth Tuesday of each month, will hold only one meeting in December. That session will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at borough hall. Sessions are held at 8 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Club to hold Open House A modern windmill farm is the latest innovation to appear on the Ramapo Valley Railroad Club’s model train layout. The club welcomes the community to view its layout at the annual Holiday Open House set for Dec. 19 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the show is $4 for adults and $1 for children under the age of 12, with a maximum of $10 per family. The HO scale layout is located in the Ho-Ho-Kus VFW building at 620 Cliff Street, Ho-Ho-Kus. Ample free parking is available. Visit http://ramapovalleyrailroad.wordpress.com for information. VFW seeks memorabilia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 192 in Ho-Ho-Kus is seeking photos, newspaper clippings, post cards, maps, aerial photos, and similar items featuring Ho-Ho-Kus and the immediate area, including the Hopper-Zabriskie Cemetery on First Street in Ho-Ho-Kus, prior to 1966. These items will be used for the VFW Post’s history project. All materials will be returned after scanning and copying. Contact Stanley Kober at (201) 445-1121. Warren Avenue Bridge remains closed The Warren Avenue Bridge in Ho-Ho-Kus will be closed to all motorists and pedestrians until the end of this year. Bergen County is refurbishing the structure. Box Tops for Education drive underway The Home and School Association is collecting Box Tops for Education Labels. The community is asked to save the labels on purchases and bring them to the collection box located in borough hall. Each label is worth 10 cents to the school. Reminder of hours at borough hall Hours of operation at Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays. Due to budgetary restrictions, borough hall employees are not permitted to work overtime without special permission. Ho-Ho-Kus officials ask residents and others who conduct business at borough hall to leave time for staff members to carry out their requests during regular hours of operation. The department of public works is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Sewing group meets at library A hand stitching group meets at the Worth-Pinkham
Memorial Library, 91 Warren Avenue, in Ho-Ho-Kus the first and third Monday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Those who enjoy needlepoint or any kind of hand stitching are welcome. Call (201) 652-1599. Library offers audio service The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-HoKus has joined BeAT -- the Bergen eAudio Team. This service allows patrons to download to their home computer, iPod, iPhone, iPad and Nook, ebooks, audio books, videos, and music. Library accepts exhibits The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library invites local artists, collectors or area residents with interesting collections to contact the library if they would be interested in displaying their collections at the library located at 91 Warren Avenue. The items would be on display for a

VFW welcomes new members The Ho-Ho-Kus VFW, which serves Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood, welcomes new members. Worth-Pinkham Library offers Internet The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library has wireless Internet service. Anyone can come in and use a laptop in the library or use one of the three computers the library has available to the public. The Worth-Pinkham Library is located at 91 Warren Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus.
