December 15, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 23 Religious Notes Calvary Announces Special Christmas Events Calvary Lutheran Church, 165 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale, will present its Advent Choral Holy Communion Service on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 10:45 a.m. This service will feature both Senior Adult Choir and the Youth Choir. Following the worship service, a special “Christmas Cookie Sampler” coffee hour will be held in Calvary’s Fellowship Hall. On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, two candlelight services offering Holy Communion are planned. At 4 p.m., the Family Candlelight Service will include the lighting of candles, traditional hymns, and inspirational scripture lessons. The Calvary Senior Choir, under the direction of Joseph Turrin, and the Calvary Youth Choir, under the direction of Marilyn Agresta assisted by Pam Grumbles, will offer special music for this service. Calvary’s youth will serve as worship assistants. At 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve, a Festive Candlelight Service of Holy Communion will be offered. This service will also include traditional readings and hymns and candlelight. Advent activities announced Highlands Presbyterian Church in Allendale will offer a special musical presentation, “The Promise of Light,” by Joel Raney on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m. On Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, there are two services planned. The children’s service will be celebrated at 5 p.m. The 8 p.m. service will begin with a musical prelude at 7:15 p.m. The community is welcome. West Side sets Christmas Services West Side Presbyterian Church invites the public its worship services throughout the Christmas holiday season. On Christmas Eve, West Side will offer three services: The 2 p.m. Family Nativity Service is an informal, interactive, intergenerational service, designed especially for families with young children. The Christmas story is told with drama, audience participation, and song. The service will feature the Cantata Choir comprised of kindergarten and first grade children, and the Youth String Ensemble. There will be a Festival of Lessons and Carols at 4:30 p.m., with a traditional service of lessons and carols, featuring the children’s and youth choirs, the Calvin Bell Choir, and a brass ensemble. The prelude will begin at 4:10 p.m. There will be a live video feed in the chapel to accommodate overflow attendance and an online video streaming for those who are unable to attend. Holy Communion Worship Service at 10:30 p.m. will feature the Chancel Choir, Westminster Bell Choir, and a string ensemble. The prelude will begin at 10:10 p.m. An online video streaming will be available for those who are unable to attend. On Dec. 26, West Side will offer one worship service at 10 a.m. Members and friends will present vocal and instrumental music of the season on New Year’s Eve at 5:45 p.m. A Holy Communion Worship Service will take place at 6:30 p.m., followed by a New Year’s Eve celebration in the narthex.
