Kindergarten/new student registration set Registration for the September 2011 kindergarten classes in Waldwick will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011 at 9 a.m. at Julia A. Traphagen School, and at 1:30 p.m. at Crescent School. Parents or guardians must bring a birth certificate or other proof of age and two proofs of residency to registration. Acceptable residency proofs include utility bills with name and address and a lease, deed, or tax bill for the residence. To be eligible for next fall’s class, children must be five years old on or before Oct. 1, 2011, have a complete physical examination after Sept. 1, 2010, and have complete immunization against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, rubella, rubeola, mumps, hepatitis B, and chickenpox. Parents or guardians must furnish a written record of the month, day, and year of all immunizations. Registration forms are available on the district’s website, www.waldwick.k12.nj.us, under each school’s website or may be picked up at Crescent and Traphagen schools during school hours. Anyone who cannot attend registration should call the school office: Crescent School at (201) 445-0690 or Traphagen School at (201) 445-0730 as soon as possible.
Parents of private school kindergarten students who are planning to attend a Waldwick public school for first grade in September 2011 are also asked to register their children by Jan. 26. These students must meet the same immunization requirements as kindergarteners. Giunta offers memoir-writing workshop Many people think about writing their life stories, but never actually start the process because the task seems too daunting. Dr. Edvige Giunta, professor of English at New Jersey City University, will present “Write Your Memoir: Five Minutes at a Time” on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. In her presentation, Dr. Giunta will give participants usable and readily available tools to get started on the exciting journey of memory work and life writing. The memoir-writing workshop is funded by the Horizons Speakers Bureau of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, a state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The program is free and open to the public; however, space is limited and advance registration is required. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. For more information call (201) 652-5104. Leaf collection update The Waldwick Department of Public Works will begin the final pass of leaf collection in District 6 this week, and District 3 on Dec. 17. Collections in Districts 1, 2, 4, and
5 are complete. Residents in the completed districts are reminded not to rake any more leaves to the curbside; they may now bag their leaves in paper lawn bags for curbside collection every Tuesday through Dec. 21, or take the leaves to the recycling center at 19 Industrial Way. For details, refer to the borough fall update publication or call (201) 652-5300. Toys for Tots collection set In the Swing in Waldwick is hosting a Toys for Tots collection at its 145 Hopper Avenue location. For each donated toy, the donor will receive four free admission tickets for one child during the month of January. New, unused, and unwrapped toys may be dropped off at the main office by Dec. 17. For more information, call (201) 444-3556. Revised recycling dates announced The Borough of Waldwick has announced the revised dates for recycling pick up for December. The dates are Dec. 15 and 29.
