Waldwick Waldwick school and town officials are working on instituting an Athletes Hall of Fame at Waldwick High School. Athletes graduating from 1966, when the school opened, to the present would be eligible. “I talked to the Boosters; I talked to the athletic director; everyone thinks it’s a good idea,” said Councilman Chuck Farricker at a recent borough council meeting. He said that since Mayor Buddy Litchult asked him to follow up on the idea, he had mentioned it to many residents, all of whom had expressed support for the project. “The advantage we have to be starting now is that we have 40 years to go back to; 40 years are still in people’s memories,” Farricker said. Our disadvantage is that we are a small school, so we have relatively few candidates to draw from.” He said that individuals, teams, athletic directors, coaches, they would probably all be eligible. Farricker said that the next step would be to see how other schools do it and set up criteria for how Waldwick would want to structure its own. Athletic Director Michael Clancy had offered to start the process rolling and report back to the Boosters, he said. “We’ll work with them. Anything we can do to push the project along and get it going, we want to help any way we can,” Mayor Litchult said. Farricker said that similar halls of fame are in place at Mahwah, Dumont, River Dell and Plainfield high schools, to name a few. December 8, 2010 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Hall of Fame eyed The Waldwick Community Emergency Response Team recently received six multi-channel radios donated by the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce in concert with Motorola. Chamber members decided to donate some of the proceeds of the 2010 5K Run to CERT. Finding the team needed radios to facilitate its work, Race Director Stan Kowalski and Jack Devereaux, his contact at Motorola, decided to pool their resources to effect the donation. The Chamber donated $450 of the approximately $1,500 cost, and Motorola donated the balance. Waldwick Police Sergeant Frank Paccione, who heads the borough’s CERT program, accepted the radios.
