MIDLAND PARK Holiday GIFT GUIDE
ASB conducts Wish Tree gift collection
Atlantic Stewardship Bank is collecting, new, unwrapped gifts for children at all of its branches through its annual Wish Tree. The Bank’s BEACH (Bank Employees Assisting Charities) Club coordinates the annual Wish Tree gift drive. Each of the banks’ thirteen branches displays a small Christmas tree decorated with ornaments and gifts tags for the collection. Both bank customers and associates are encouraged to take a tag and an ornament from the tree and return with a new, unwrapped gift suitable for a child under age 16. The gift collection runs through Friday, December 17, 2010. The gifts are presented to local charitable organizations such as New City Kids, Westwood Cares, CUMAC, Harvest Outreach Ministries and New Hope Ministries to distribute to needy and inner city children.
For the 13th consecutive season, the internationally acclaimed Donetsk Ballet company from Ukraine and ballet students of Midland Park’s Miss Patti’s School of Dance will present three performances of “The Nutcracker,” Dec. 10 through 12, at Paramus Catholic High School, 425 Paramus Road, in Paramus. One hundred sixty-five lavishly-costumed performers will present this favorite Tchaikovsky ballet. The holiday performance combines dancing candies, soldiers marching into battle and dastardly rodents to create lasting memories for audiences of all ages. Proceeds will benefit pediatric cancer research, care, and treatment. These performances are sponsored by JulieDance, a non-profit arts organization founded in 1997 by Patti and Darryl Vigon in memory of their daughter, Julie, who died of Ewing sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, at age 12. Julie was a promising young ballerina who distinguished herself as a student with the School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center and as a performer in the children’s repertoire of many New York City Ballet productions. JulieDance is dedicated to fostering appreciation for the participation in dance and music, and to supporting the efforts of those who research and treat childhood cancer. In 12 years, JulieDance has raised $312,500 for pediatric cancer organizations. The Donetsk Ballet is regarded as one of the Russian region’s foremost dance companies, rivaling the Bolshoi and Kirov. Performances are scheduled for Dec 10 and 11 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $35 and $40. For information and tickets, call (201) 670-4422. MasterCard and Visa are accepted and group rates are available.
