Book clubs to meet The Upper Saddle River Library’s Novels at Night book club will discuss “Darling Jim” by Christian Moerk on Wednesday, Dec. 8. This group meets the first Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. Elinor Lipman’s “The Family Man” will be the topic at the Coffee Talk Book Club on Thursday, Dec. 9. The group meets the

Holiday Book Sale set The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will hold a Holiday Book Sale on Saturday, Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. The sale will include a wide assortment of almost-new

Club welcomes new members, hosts events The Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club welcomes all residents from Saddle River and Upper Saddle River, regardless of the length of their residency. Board of education to meet The Upper Saddle River Board of Education will meet Dec. 13 at 8 p.m. in the media center of the Cavallini Middle School, 392 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Cyber bullying to be discussed The Upper Saddle River Police Department, in conjunction with the Upper Saddle River Youth Guidance Council and Cavallini Middle School, will present a program on cyber bullying on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. Upper Saddle River parents with children in grades four through 12 are encouraged to attend. The program is designed for parents. No one under 21 years of age will be admitted. The program will be held in
the auditorium at Cavallini Middle School, 392 West Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Refreshments will be served from 7 to 7:30 p.m. “Sticks and Stones,” a film developed by Park Ridge High School’s school psychologist and student assistance counselor Andrew Yeager and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, will be shown. The film explores the irreversible consequences of cyber bullying via social networks, email, cell phones, instant messages, and texting. A question and answer session will follow the movie. Special needs basketball offered For the first time, the Upper Saddle River Basketball Association is offering a structured, small group basketball clinic for special needs children in grades two and three. Clinics will be held on Sundays at 9 a.m. for an hour in the Reynolds School gym. The players will warm up, run drills, and scrimmage each other. Built-in breaks and other accommodations will be made. Each participant will require a parent shadow for all clinics. All players will receive a Tshirt.
