Chamber offers ‘green’ fundraiser The Allendale Chamber of Commerce is offering residents a chance to save on their energy bills, raise money for the Chamber, and embrace a greener lifestyle. The Chamber has partnered with Viridian, an energy provider, to encourage consumer choice when purchasing electricity for their homes. With the deregulation of the electricity industry, consumers in north Jersey have the option to choose their electric supplier. Those who sign up with Viridian receive a 10 percent discount on the first month’s supply portion of their energy bills. Sign up by Dec. 31 under the Allendale Chamber’s campaign, and the Chamber will receive a contribution from Viridian to fund its programs. After enrolling with Viridian there is little else the consumer needs to do. The
local utility continues to send the bills and deliver the electricity to the home or business. The difference is Veridian’s name and rates are listed on the bill. Enroll online at www. Viridian.com/ allendalegoesgreen or by phone at (201) 236-1910. Fyke plans Christmas Bird Count Fyke Nature Association will hold its annual Christmas Bird Count on Saturday, Dec. 18. This count is part of the 111th Christmas Bird Count, a continent-wide program organized by the National Audubon Society. Working from dawn to dusk, at least eight teams will cover a 15-mile diameter circle centered on Lake Erskine, counting all the birds they see and hear. The association’s circle includes Ramsey, Mahwah, Allendale, Wyckoff, Franklin Lakes, Oakland, Wayne, Pompton Lakes, Bloomingdale, Ringwood, West Milford, Greenwood Lake, Tuxedo, Hillburn, Sloatsburg, and Suffern. The entire group will assemble at 5:30 p.m. at the Allendale Municipal Building,
500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale to review the day’s results. The show will benefit the restoration of The John Fell House in Allendale. The evening will be held at Seasons in Washington Township, and will feature a cocktail reception, gourmet dinner, gift basket prizes, and the fashion show. As the primary beneficiary of the fundraiser, The Fell House will receive 50 percent of the proceeds, with the remaining funds to be designated to assist other local charities and organizations. Muslim/Christian Dialogue planned Trinity Episcopal Church at 55 George Street in Allendale will host a Muslim/ Christian Dialogue Panel on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. The panel will include Mohamed El Filali, outreach director of the Islamic Center of Passaic County; Nuray Sonmez, president of the Islamic Dialogue Center Women’s Association; and The Rev-
erend Lisa Green, Diocese of Newark Ecumenical/Interreligious Office. The dialogue is not only intended to present a venue for Christians and Muslims to begin a conversation with each other, but also to answer the question of how the members of each faith community can work together to build and transform community life. This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (201) 327-3012.
