Hopper-Goetschius Museum hosts Holiday Open House
Come share the magic of the holiday season at the Hopper-Goetschius House Museum on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 1 to 4 p.m. Children are invited to visit Santa in his sleigh in the Dutch barn. Our jolly man in the red suit was first drawn by Thomas Nast in the mid-1800s. To visit with him, each child is asked to donate a canned good or non-perishable food item for the food bank. In the schoolroom in the Ramsey house, children can listen to a reading of Clement Clarke Moore’s 1848 “’Twas the Night before Christmas,” at 1:30, 2:30, and 3:30 p.m. On display in the back room will be vintage toys and dolls plus a “farm scene in 1900” set up by Robert Santomarco. Try some chestnuts roasted on the open fire in the outkitchen and sip mulled cider brewed in Kate’s kitchen in the house. Festive Victorian decorations abound with a tree displaying Steve and Lizzie’s ornaments. Be sure to visit “Lizzie’s Attic,” where Girl Scout Silver
