ALLENDALE Holiday Walk The Concerned Citizens of Allendale will host a Holiday House Tour of the John Fell House, 475 Franklin Turnpike, Allendale, on Sunday, Dec. 5 from noon to 4 p.m. The house will be beautifully decorated for Christmas. Glowing Christmas trees, decorated mantles, and a cozy story area will be waiting for you and your family. Christmas stories will be read to the children and good tidings exchanged with friends, neighbors, and other supporters of the Fell House. All are invited to this very special event. The suggested donation is $5 per adult; $3 per senior citizen and child. All proceeds from the Holiday House Tour will go towards the restoration fund. Fell, who built the original portion of the Fell House in the 1750s, was a member of the Continental Congress and was among those to ratify the U.S. Constitution. During the American Revolution, Fell was captured an imprisoned at the Provost Jail in lower Manhattan. There, Fell secretly kept a journal that documented the poor treatment of American prisoners. When he was released from the jail in 1778, Fell was named as one of two New Jersey delegates to the Continental Congress. Fell’s Allendale residence was constructed in three phases, beginning in the 18th century. A wing was added in the 1830s and, in 1915, an addition was made that gave the house its current Colonial Revival appearance. The property includes a Gothic Revival barn and has been recognized as a landmark along the Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route.
