Former Franklin Lakes residents Joe and Elaine Griswold have been named a “Daily Point of Light” for their outstanding service to the children of Uganda. Joe Griswold is president of Real Partners Uganda President and his wife Elaine is the organization’s vice president and executive director. The Griswolds and several partners around the world have united to improve the education and health of Ugandans especially in the Lukaya community. The largest of their projects is the Mustard Seed Academy where over 300 students, ages 3 to 13, go to school. The school serves a population of children from an extremely economically underdeveloped community. Mustard Seed Academy benefits from small class sizes and well-educated teachers. Students learn good nutrition and benefit from modern health care. The school is also a model for sustainable development. The Griswolds have united a with partners to form two non-profit organizations; one in Uganda (Tree of Life Ministries) and one in the United States (Real Partners Uganda) to support their work in developing the economic viability and education of Lukaya’s citizens.
Griswolds earn ‘Daily Point of Light’ recognition
Before their move to Brigantine, the Griswolds actively promoted Real Partners Uganda at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Midland Park and at the Church of the Epiphany in Allendale. Those churches have since joined and are currently known as Trinity Episcopal Church. Daily Point of Light Award founder President George H.W. Bush and CEO of Points of Light Institute Michelle Nunn thank the Griswolds for putting their values into action and for giving unselfish service to others with energy and commitment. The Points of Light Institute inspires, equips, and mobilizes people to take action that changes the world. The
institute has a global focus to redefine volunteerism and civic engagement for the 21st century, putting people at the center of community problem solving. Points of Light Institute operates three dynamic business units that share our mission: HandsOn Network, MissionFish, and the Civic Incubator. The Daily Point of Light Award honors individuals and community groups that create meaningful change in their communities through service. Each weekday, one volunteer or volunteer effort in the country receives a Daily Point of Light Award. To nominate a volunteer, visit http://www.pointsoflight.org/recognition/dpol.
