Chamber plans breakfast meeting The Allendale Chamber of Commerce will host a breakfast meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 8:30 a.m. at Terrie O’Connor Realtors, 75 West Allendale Avenue. Christmas Cantata set The Archer United Methodist Church Chancel Choir will present its Annual Christmas Cantata at the 10:30 a.m. worship service on Dec. 19. All are welcome. The cantata, “In Their Eyes” was written by choir member Jeff Seise (ASCAP). Rev. David Harwood will narrate, and soloists will be Laura Van Orden, Don Seise, Nancy Cauwenberghs and Jeff Seise. Advent activities announced Highlands Presbyterian Church in
Allendale will hold a special Advent Lunch and Christmas Carol Sing-along following the 10 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Dec. 5. On Sunday, Dec. 17 at 10 a.m., there will be a special musical presentation, “The Promise of Light,” by Joel Raney. There will be two services on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24). The children’s service will be celebrated at 5 p.m. The 8 p.m. service will begin with a musical prelude at 7:15 p.m. The community is welcome to join in the church’s ministry. Highlands Presbyterian Church is located at 270 Franklin Turnpike in Allendale, and has members from communities throughout Bergen County. Weekly worship services are held on Sunday mornings at 10 a.m., with child care and Sunday school provided. Thrift shop to open December 4 The Clothes Line Thrift Shop, located in the Archer United Methodist Church at the corner of Franklin Turnpike and East Allendale Avenue in Allendale, will be open Saturday, Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The shop currently has some specialty items featuring three bridal gowns, evening wear, winter coats, sweaters, and many baby items. There is a large assortment
of Christmas items, and household items including dishes and glassware. The shop has clothing for men, women, and children. Hours are Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call (201) 327-0020. ‘Ghosts of Allendale’ signings set “Ghosts of Allendale,” a new book written by Allendale resident Jim Wright and illustrated by artists from Northern Highlands Regional High School, will be featured at two local events in early December. The tale features Founding Father John Fell and a frightening night in Wolf Swamp, which is now the 107-acre Celery Farm Natural Area. Lee Memorial Library will host a talk and signing on Thursday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. Rohsler’s Allendale Nursery will host a signing on Dec. 5 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. All proceeds from the limited edition, which sells for $19.95, will benefit the Fell House and the Lillian and Stiles Thomas Scholarship Fund at Northern Highlands. Club hosts Holiday Breakfast The Allendale Woman’s Club will host a Holiday Breakfast on Saturday, Dec. 4 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Brookside School Cafeteria, 100 Brookside Avenue in Allendale. This annual event, which is open to people of all ages and religious affiliations, will include a full breakfast supplied by Allendale Eats, Bernie’s Bagels, and Dunkin Donuts. Highlights will include live entertainment, crafts, activities, and a visit from Santa. Attendees are asked to bring a new unwrapped gift for at-risk children from birth to age 12. Donated gifts will be distributed by OASIS: A Haven for Women and Children in Paterson. Tickets are $5 per person or $20 per
family, and will be available at the Allendale Holiday Walk on Friday, Dec. 3 from 7 to 9 p.m., and at the door the day of the event. HSA fundraiser begins The Northern Highlands Regional High School Home and School Association’s Top Tech fundraiser has begun. Prizes include a Sony 3-D 55” Led HD TV w/ PS3, Mac Book Pro 15” laptop, iPad-32 GB Wi-Fi, computerized Janome sewing machine, iPod Nano 16 GB with iTunes Gift Card, Kindle 3G wireless, and/or Sharp Aquos Blu-Ray DVD player. Tickets are $5 each; $30 for a six-ticket book, or $50 for two books. The winners will be announced on Dec. 8. Winners need not be present. Eagle candidate seeks donations Bobby Fernekees of Allendale Boy Scout Troop 59 is seeking monetary donations or supplies for his Eagle Scout project, which is in progress at Christ Episcopal Church in Suffern, New York. Fernekees is renovating a room for sorting clothing donations received by the church. The church hosts a soup kitchen, thrift shop, and other outreach programs. Items that are still needed include folding chairs and tables, plastic storage bins, and painting supplies.
