Cooking up support for CFA
Waldwick Girl Scout Cadette Troop 826 held a Bake Sale to raise money for the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. The troop was impressed with how generous the community was with supporting the sale for a good cause. The girls had the opportunity to visit the center and present CFA staff members with a check. The girls are working towards their Silver Award and are planning other projects to help the community.
James Azarian, a sixth grade student at Saddle River Day School, is in emergent need of a bone marrow transplant due to a recent diagnosis of a very rare form of leukemia. Azarian’s parents are currently seeking the help of local chambers of commerce and several other organizations to help find a donor match and provide James with the gift of life. Late last month, the Azarians’ pediatrician’s office, Bergen West Pediatric Center in Wyckoff, hosted a bone marrow drive for James. The goal was to get as many participants as possible to attend the bone marrow drive. Just one match can make the difference. The pediatrician’s office sponsored

a Bone Marrow Donor Registry Drive through the Gift of Life Bone Marrow Foundation. Registration is quick and involves a simple, painless cheek swab. Eligible donors must be between the ages of 18 and 60 and in general good health, meet the guidelines, and be able to donate to any patient, anytime worldwide. Once a person is registered with the foundation, his or her information will remain in the registry until age 60, or until that person no longer wishes to participate.
