Page 10 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • December 1, 2010 Ho-Ho-Kus Two newest Eagle Scouts receive further recognition by Jennifer Crusco The Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Council recently recognized Donald Maita II and Jeremy Daniel Yeaton, Boy Scout Troop 54’s two newest Eagle Scouts. Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall noted that Troop 54 has had over 100 Eagle Scouts throughout the organization’s history. He acknowledged the boys’ leadership skills and the many hours the candidates logged to achieve Boy Scouting’s highest honor. He added that the support from the Scouts’ families, friends, and peers is crucial and impressive. Randall called each Eagle Scout up individually while he read the resolutions being proposed in their honor. Maita’s path to Eagle included beginning as a Cub Scout and advancing through the ranks to assistant senior patrol leader and then to patrol leader. He is an Ordeal member of the Order of the Arrow. He also participated in camping programs at NoBeBoSco for three summers and at Floodwood Scout Camp for one summer. Maita earned the Arrow of Light Award, becoming a First Class Scout in 2006 and a Star Scout in 2008. Last year, he became a Life Scout. Maita attends Bergen Catholic High School, where he plays basketball and participates in a number of clubs and organizations. Maita is a member of Saint Gabriel the Archangel Church, where he volunteers Chamber decorates downtown The Ho-Ho-Ho-Kus Chamber of Commerce recently spruced up the downtown shopping and dining district with garland and red bows. The decorations were hung on the new lampposts, and where there were none, on trees. Sheridan, Maple, Franklin Turnpike, Orvil and Sycamore Streets will show off some holiday spirit. The garland and bows were provided at cost by a local flower shop. The chamber will also need help in January to take down the decorations. as an assistant CCD teacher. His Eagle Project involved raising funds for a new flag pole at the Ho-Ho-KusRidgewood Veterans of Foreign Wars post home on Cliff Street. After raising the necessary funds, he led his troop in the installation project and landscape work, which included a new paver sidewalk. Yeaton has also worked his way up the ranks to become a senior patrol leader. He attended NoBeBoSco for three summers and served on that camp’s staff for an additional year. He also attended the Floodwood Scout Camp for one summer and participated in the Boy Scout National Youth Leadership Training for four years. Yeaton earned the Arrow of Light Award and is a Brotherhood Member of the Order of the Arrow. He has been honored as a First Class Scout, a Star Scout, and a Life Scout. Yeaton attends Northern Highlands High School, where he is a member of various groups and clubs. At his church, he is a member of the Audio Visual Committee and a member of the youth group. His Eagle Project involved raising money for building materials and then leading his peers in building a security wall and gate in the basement of the Friends of the Hermitage building. The installations will protect the museum’s collection.
