Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • August 25, 2010 Ho-Ho-Kus Chief of police to leave borough in November by Jennifer Crusco Ho-Ho-Kus Police Chief Gregory Kallenberg is planning to step down from his post Nov. 30 after 30 years in law enforcement. “It seemed to be the right time,” Chief Kallenberg told Villadom TIMES last week. He said many local police chiefs have been making decisions to remain in their posts or leave as New Jersey municipalities are forced to make changes in benefits due to economic constraints. In recent months, the chiefs of police in Allendale, Franklin Lakes, and Ridgewood have announced their decisions to retire. Asked about his future plans, Kallenberg said he will stay in the area. “I have worked 41 years of my life and this is the first time I’m leaving without having another job,” he said. The chief said he has been working since he was 14. A life-long resident of Midland Park, Kallenberg attended the local schools and graduated from Midland Park High School in 1974. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy’s submarine service. He left the U.S. Navy as a first class petty officer. Kallenberg later joined the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, working in the jails and as a bailiff in the courts.
