The National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. recently honored Bernard J. Milano, president of the KPMG Foundation and The PhD Project, as a NABA Legend. Milano received the honor at the Second Annual Legends Luncheon, “A Tribute to Trailblazers and Pathmakers.” The Allendale resident was selected for this honor because of his dedication to the KPMG Foundation and for being the driving force behind The PhD Project. His commitment to increasing the diversity of business school faculty by attracting African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and Native Americans to the profession, is consistent with NABA’s mission to address the professional needs of its members and to build leaders who shape the future of the accounting and finance profession with an unfaltering commitment to inspire the same in their successors. “It was our privilege to honor Bernie as a NABA Legend at our 2010 National Convention,” said Shariah DixonTurner, executive vice president and national convention chair, NABA, Inc. “Through his efforts and the foundation’s commitment to The PhD Project, more African Americans

When The PhD Project was created, there were only 294 doctorally qualified African-American, Hispanic-American, or Native American minority business professors in all U.S. business schools. Today there are 1,043 minority business professors, an increase of more than 250 percent. Minority enrollment in doctoral business programs continues to climb, with close to 400 students currently enrolled. “The impact that The PhD Project has had on increasing (continued on page 10)
