Local historian to discuss John Fell Peter Fenzel will present a program about former Allendale resident John Fell at the Sept. 14 meeting of the HoHo-Kus Seniors. Fell, a supporter of George Washington and an American patriot, was captured by the British and imprisoned in New York City from April 1777 to January 1778. While imprisoned, he wrote a 16-page diary. Fell built his mansion on Franklin Turnpike in Allendale in the 1760s. The building was recently purchased by the Concerned Citizens of Allendale. Members of the Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the education center at The Hermitage. Beverages and dessert are served at noon, and programs begin at 1 p.m. Residents who are at least 55 years of age are welcome to attend. Club’s Bridge Marathon to commence The eleventh season of the Ho-Ho-Kus Woman’s Club Bridge Marathon will begin on Monday, Sept. 13. New players are welcome. Beller exhibits drawings at library Artist Karen Ann Beller is exhibiting her pencil and crayon drawing at the Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library during the month of August. A New Jersey resident, Beller is fascinated by the Dutch Masters, Cezanne, Monet, and Vermeer. The drawings on display are from her visits to Italy, Greece, and Nantucket. The library is located at 91 Warren Avenue. Vendors sought The Ho-Ho-Kus Community Church is seeking vendors for its Holiday Bazaar scheduled for Nov. 13. Space reserved by Oct. 15 will cost $50 for an upstairs booth, and $40 downstairs. After Oct. 15, booths will be available at $75 and $60 each. The annual event will feature favorites for the holidays, including handmade crafts, baked goods, preserves and jellies, a book stall, a café, and musical entertainment. Seniors hold meetings The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month in the Education Center of the Hermitage. Reminder of hours at borough hall Hours of operation at Ho-Ho-Kus Borough Hall are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Due to budgetary restrictions, borough hall employees are not permitted to work overtime without special permission. Ho-Ho-Kus officials ask residents and others who conduct business at borough hall to leave enough time for staff members to carry out their requests during regular hours of operation. The police department remains open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The department of public works is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Sewing group meets at library A hand stitching group meets at the Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library, 91 Warren Avenue, in Ho-Ho-Kus the first and third Monday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Those who enjoy needlepoint or any kind of hand stitching is welcome. The mugs, made of stainless steel, sport the Ho-Ho-Kus monogram and swivel tops. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Center for Women’s Health

VFW seeks memorabilia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 192 in Ho-Ho-Kus is seeking photos, newspaper clippings, post cards, maps, aerial photos, and similar items featuring Ho-Ho-Kus and the immediate area, including the Hopper-Zabriskie Cemetery on First Street in Ho-Ho-Kus, prior to 1966. These items will be used for the VFW Post’s history project. All materials will be returned after scanning and copying. Contact Stanley Kober at (201) 445-1121. Library service for homebound or sick available The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus provides a delivery service for the elderly, homebound, or sick. A resident will be delivering books to borough residents on the first or third Thursday afternoon of each month. Books will be delivered after 2 p.m. Residents can decide which day they would like delivery. To receive books at home, call the library on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before delivery. A librarian will
take name, address, phone number and book requests. Participants must have a current library card. The staff will assist residents in applying for one. Book requests will be filled as best as possible with the understanding that new and popular books may not be available when first requested. Delivery is one Thursday per month only. Requests must be made during library hours. Messages left on the answering machine will not be filled. There will be no late fees for overdue books with this service. Call (201) 445-8078.
