Borough to clean up Alexander Avenue property
The Waldwick Council last week voted to enforce the property maintenance code against a house on Alexander Avenue. The single-family home had been the subject of numerous complaints from neighbors since its owners left it vacant more than two years ago. The council’s resolution places a lien against the property for the amount of the cleanup, not to exceed $150. State law and local ordinances permit the municipality “to remove brush, weeds and other obnoxious growths” when necessary to correct overgrown conditions. “We all take pride in our community, and we have to make sure that our properties are well kept for ourselves and our neighbors,” explained Councilman Thomas Giordano. Building Inspector Joe Mysliwiec, the borough’s property maintenance officer, said that he had sent several notices to the property owners asking them to correct the situation, to no avail. As provided by law, a final notice was sent last month giving 10 days to abate, paving the way for the borough to get the job done. Mysliwiec said he had sought three bids to do the clean up, with CM Landscaping of Waldwick coming in as the low bidder. He said no fines had been levied against the property owner.
