Biathlon open to youth The First Franklin Lakes Youth “Splash and Dash” Biathlon will be held on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 8 a.m. Athletes ranging in age from seven to 15 will compete in this swim/run event to be held at The Indian Trail Club, 830 Franklin Lake Road in Franklin Lakes. Proceeds will benefit both the Franklin Lakes Recreation Department and the Wyckoff Family YMCA. The race is designed to promote health and wellness for children and be a social community-wide event. Four race groups are as follows: seven and eight year olds compete in a 75-yard pool swim and one-mile run; nine to 11 year olds swim 200 yards in pool and run two miles; 12 and 13 year olds swim 400 yards in the lake and a 2.5 mile run; and 14 and15 year olds swim 600 yards in the lake and run three miles. All participants will receive a t-shirt. Prizes will be
awarded to the top three in each age category as well as to the top three relay teams. The race will accommodate a limited number of participants. Individual fee is $50, and relay teams are $65. Special Needs Soccer program open The Ridgewood Soccer Association has openings in its special needs program for children ages five through 14 who require the individualized attention available in a smaller group setting. Open to children in Ridgewood and neighboring towns, the program provides an enjoyable hour of soccer for players of all skill levels. A unique feature of the program is the participation by highly skilled volunteers from the Ridgewood High School Girls Soccer team who serve as mentors for the players. Whether a player is new to soccer or a seasoned veteran of the program, the aim is to develop skills, promote fit-
ness, and emphasize the fun aspects of soccer. Clinics are run on Saturday afternoons in Ridgewood from Sept. 11 through Oct. 30. The cost is $60 for the eight sessions. Vendors sought for fall boutique Glen Rock Jewish Center is looking for vendors for its Fall Boutique planned for Sunday, Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the center located at 682 Harristown Road in Glen Rock. For more information contact (201) 652-6624 or office@grjc.org Summer concert series continues The next concert in the free outdoor series at the Holland Christian Home, “Summer Nights at the Gazebo, is set for Tuesday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. This event will feature Cornucopia performing the sounds of the Big Band Era. Previous concerts in the series featured the Roy Meyer Swingers and Ridgewood Cavaliers of Harmony. A final concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14 when the Brass Work Quintet will perform old and new tunes. All ages are welcome. Concerts will take place rain or shine, with performances moved indoors to the Home’s Chapel in the event of inclement weather. Seating is provided, but attendees should also feel free to bring their favorite lawn chairs. Refreshments will be served following each concert.
