As of July 27, the emergency ban has been lifted. Waldwick water users can continue their normal water use with zero restrictions. The Waldwick Mayor and Council thank the community for their cooperation during this emergency. Lions host Golf Classic The Waldwick Lions Club will once again host its annual team Golf Classic at Bowling Green Golf Club on Monday, Sept. 20. The event will begin with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. The event, a team and best-ball outing, will begin with skills competitions such as breaking a pane of glass by chipping, and putting contests. The entry fee includes free range balls, full breakfast, and lunch and libations along with giveaways and oncourse performance prizes. Funds raised will go toward the more than $50,000 per year the Waldwick Lions Club donates to local causes and sightrelated charities. Local student recognized Ingrid Alba of Waldwick has been named to the Dean’s List at Dover Business College for the spring 2010 quarter. Dover Business College students who achieve a grade point average of 3.8 or better with a minimum of 12 academic credits qualify for this honor. Film series features famed directors Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. The theme for the month of August is Famous Directors, and the schedule of screenings is as follows: Aug. 12, “The Big Sleep,” directed by Howard Hawks (1946); Aug. 19, Alfred Hitchcock’s “Strangers on a Train” (1951); and Aug. 26, “Great Expectations” directed by David Lean (1946). Classic film screenings are free and open to the public. Registration is not necessary; however arrival before 2 p.m. is encouraged. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. HCA plans concert The Highlands Community Association will host its Annual Concert in the Park on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. This free concert, now in its tenth year, brings families and friends together for an evening of musical enjoyment. Once again, the concert will feature the 3M Band, which has played at the event for the past nine years. The concert is open to Waldwick residents and their guests. It will take place at the HCA Park located on West Saddle River Road in Waldwick. Glow necklaces, soft drinks, water, and sweets will be available for purchase. Children’s programs set Professional educator Jerry Schneider of Vermont will present “Dragonflies Alight at Library” on Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 11:45 a.m. at the Waldwick Public Library. This program is suitable for children ages five and up, introduces children to dragonflies, darner, skimmers and more. Space is limited, and advance registration and proof of residency are required. “Rainbow Fish and the Deep Blue Sea,” a puppet show by Robert Rogers, will be at the library on Tuesday, Aug 17 at 11:45 a.m. Children ages three and up are invited to attend. Children’s musician Kurt Gallagher will perform on Tuesday, Aug. 24 at 11:45 a.m. Children ages three and up are invited to sing along and maybe even be chosen to sing one of their favorite songs on stage. Lions Club Carnival coming this week Children enjoy a ride at a previous Lions Club Family Days Carnival. The annual Waldwick Lions Club Family Days Carnival will take place Aug. 9 through 14 this year on the Forum School property on Wyckoff Avenue, Waldwick. Join the Waldwick Lions Club each night from 7 to 11 p.m. for food, rides, games, and an opportunity to win a cash prize. Purchase a wristband for $20 and enjoy unlimited rides on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. A fireworks display will be held on Wednesday night (rain date Saturday). Founded in 1955, the Waldwick Lions Club supports sight-related organizations, such as the Seeing Eye program and other state-approved programs for the blind and visually impaired; the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation; and local civic projects. The club distributes approximately $50,000 per year to its selected causes. Since its inception, the group has provided a total of $1.5 million to its various beneficiaries. Over the years, the club has been a major contributor to the public library, built and maintained the health center, constructed the pavilion/gazebo at Borough Park, and created Lions Playground. The club also sponsors local ball teams, provides scholarships to Waldwick students who are pursuing college educations, and works closely with the school nurse to provide confidential funding for eye exams and glasses for students in need. The carnival is the club’s major fundraiser, netting approximately 50 percent of the group’s budget each year. Advance tickets are being sold at L.A. Chris Ryan of Waldwick was charged with one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely Roxicodone; one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely Oxycontin, in a quantity of less than one ounce; one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance within one thousand feet of a school zone; and one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance within 500 feet of a park zone. Eric Massenaro of Waldwick was charged with one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely marijuana, in a quantity of less than one ounce. Steven Avagnano of Waldwick was charged with one count of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, namely marijuana, in a quantity of one ounce or more but less than five pounds; and one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely ecstasy, in a quantity greater than one-half ounce but less than five ounces. A juvenile from Waldwick, was also arrested and charged with the following: one count of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, namely marijuana; one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely Roxicodone; one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, namely marijuana, in a quantity of less than one ounce; one count of possession with the intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance, namely marijuana, in a quantity of one ounce or more but less than five pounds; and one count of distribution of marijuana within 500 feet of a park zone. Prosecutor Molinelli states that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. He thanked the Waldwick Police Department, the Fair Lawn Police Department, and the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office for their participation and assistance with this investigation.
