Marjorie is a single mom who had been getting by with the help of her parents and friends. The diagnosis was emotionally crushing, and she needed help with so many things: getting her life reorganized to deal with many trips to the oncologist and to treatments, working things out with Julianna’s school, dealing with health insurance problems, and emotionally managing the crisis that had suddenly been thrust upon her. An ECF caseworker quickly stepped in to help Marjorie. In almost no time at all, she was able to deal more effectively with what was in front of her, and with her Our hat’s off to Alexa. This third-grader from Sicomac Elementary School gets our thanks and appreciation for her recent community service project of collecting art supplies such as crayons, markers, colored pencils, and coloring books. These items are being distributed to Emmanuel Cancer Foundation kids who can really use them. Marjorie was perplexed when her sixyear old daughter, Julianna, complained of nausea and dizziness. Julianna’s symptoms, which included a poor appetite, prompted a visit to the doctor. Several trips to the pediatrician left them baffled, until some tests came back and they learned that Julianna 4-29-09 karen/janine had leukemia. Our volunteers began a monthly food delivery, Marjorie got connected to community resources, bills got paid, and insurance company problems were resolved. Marjorie tells us, “I am not out of the woods yet. We have many medical issues to deal with, but we’re able to meet the challenges and I do not feel all alone in this. Another big need: We are looking for a volunteer to deliver groceries to a family in Netcong (Sussex County) on a monthly basis. One of our families needs a new fence (6’ x 128’) for their yard. The old fence is beyond repair and is falling down. If you have a solution, please contact us. Save our van: A few years back, we were able to acquire a van due to the generosity of a local church. Since then, we have made countless deliveries of groceries and other items to families. Now we need your help to keep the van in operation (maintenance, licensing, gas, and oil).
