Crafters, antique cars sought for Festival Day The Allendale Chamber of Commerce is seeking crafters and antique cars for the 18th Annual Allendale Festival Day and Car Show. Plant and Book Sale set A Plant and Book Sale sponsored by the Allendale Garden Club and the Friends of the Allendale Library will be held May 15 at Lee Memorial Library, 500 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. A large variety of locally grown perennials and nursery plants will be sold from the library lawn from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Members of the garden club will be there to help with selections, and answer questions. Books will be sold upstairs and in the lobby of the library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Many books, including fiction and nonfiction, current best-sellers, children’s books, tapes, and videos may be purchased at bargain prices from 25 cents to $1. Performers wanted The Allendale Chamber of Commerce is looking for talented entertainers willing to perform during the annual Allendale Street Festival, scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2. Musicians perform at Lincoln Center The Northern Highlands Regional High School Wind Ensemble and Concert Choir will perform on the Avery Fisher Hall Stage at Lincoln Center on Tuesday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m. The students will be taking part in a program sponsored by Perform America called America’s Youth in Concert. Sotiropoulos at sotiropout@northernhighlands.org Archer holds annual AB&G Sale Archer United Methodist Church will host its 40th Annual AB&G Sale (Attic, Basement, and Garage Sale)
on Saturday, May 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The sale will be held throughout the church, which is located at the corner of Franklin Turnpike and East Allendale Avenue, Allendale. New for this year is “Cash for Gold.” Bring gold and sterling silver items to the sale and turn it into cash. Food, snacks, and drinks will be available for purchase. The church will accept salable donations of gently used furniture, linens, small appliances, kitchen accessories, holiday items, sporting goods, toys, bikes, lawn equipment, baby items, books, and other household goods, which may be dropped off April 26 through 30. Limited pickup service of large furniture items will be available that week. Call the church office (201) 327-0020 to schedule a pickup. Patrons honored at reception The Friends of the Allendale Library will host a reception to honor the library’s patrons for their generous contributions toward the recently-installed circulation desk. The reception has been scheduled for May 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lee Memorial Library, 500 West Crescent Avenue. Local author Adam Keeble, will be present to sign copies of his new book, “Don’t Put Baby in the Corner.” Refreshments will be served. The new circulation desk was designed, constructed, and assembled entirely from community donations, and proceeds from the ongoing and the semi-annual book sales. Hermansen to address Republican Club Freeholder Rob Hermansen will be the guest speaker at the April 27 meeting of the Allendale Republican Club. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers on the second floor of the municipal building, 500 West Crescent Avenue. All are welcome. Board of education to meet The Allendale Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, April 20 at 8 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Brookside School Library, 100 Brookside Avenue. Thrift Shop accepts spring clothing The Clothes Line Thrift Shop is now accepting spring clothing during regular hours, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. New items are arriving daily. The Thrift Shop has clothing for children and adults, household items, and jewelry. A new specialty item that recently arrived is a starter drum set priced at $75.

Career development group offered The Allendale Clergy Association has formed a career development group called Opening Doors. The group provides a venue for peer support, networking, and practical job search resources for those who are in transition or seeking to rejoin the workforce. Opening Doors will provide resources for those who seek a communal face-to-face setting, and for those who would prefer to access them from home. Weekly meetings are held on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Highlands Presbyterian Church, at 270 Franklin Turnpike. All are welcome. The first Wednesday of each month begins with a specific career development topic such as self/career assessment, resume/cover letter writing, interviewing skills, and tutorials on networking sites. On-site WiFi will be available, and representatives from the business community and the Allendale clergy will be on hand at each meeting. Books are priced at from 25 cents to $1. Proceeds go directly to the library for the purchase of new materials.
